Since 1903, the Bodda family has farmed the Alfieri hills of Cisterna d'Asti from a position of rare geographic fortune: their vineyards touch three of Piedmont's most distinctive terroirs, Roero to the north, Monferrato to the east, and Langhe to the south. Four generations in, Alessandra Bodda leads the estate alongside her children Emanuele the oenologist, Martina, and Moreno, carrying forward a tradition rooted in native varieties and respect for the land.
The Vineyard
Forty hectares are planted across the sandy and clay soils of the Terre Alfieri, with low-yield vines and a commitment to zero systemic chemistry in the vineyard. Fermentation proceeds with indigenous yeasts. The estate runs entirely on solar energy produced on-site and uses lighter packaging to reduce its carbon footprint by 32 per cent. Sustainability is not a marketing choice here; it is built into the infrastructure.
The Varieties
The portfolio spans Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Freisa, Brachetto, and Arneis, a comprehensive roll call of Piedmont's indigenous cast. Around 20 different wines emerge from these vines, from structured Nebbiolo to the lively, food-friendly Barbera bottlings, and crisp Arneis whites that capture the aromatic freshness of the Roero hills.
Kermit Lynch Connection
Tenuta la Pergola is imported to the United States by Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, a seal of quality that has introduced the estate's wines to a broad audience of American wine lovers who value authentic, terroir-driven Piedmont.
