FRES.CO is winemaker Jack Sporer's vehicle for a simple idea: that better farming in Sonoma Valley makes better wine, and that growers should be rewarded for the harder, healthier path.
Backstory
Jack Sporer grew up in San Francisco, spending weekends on his family's organic vegetable farm and vineyard in Sonoma Valley, where his uncle began making wine in 2000. After studying biology at Providence College, Jack returned home in 2012 for his first harvest, then worked vintages in France, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. He launched FRES.CO, short for the Fresh Wine Company, in 2019, and in early 2020 co-founded the Magnolia Wine Services custom-crush facility with his uncle Will Bucklin, where the wines are made.
The Region
FRES.CO is rooted in Sonoma Valley, California, drawing on the area's deep winegrowing tradition while pushing growers toward more sustainable farming.
Vineyards and Farming
The project sources from organically and regeneratively farmed vineyards, favoring methods such as dry farming, no-till and no-spray viticulture. The aim is to give growers leverage to transition toward regenerative and environmentally sustainable practices.
Winemaking
The wines are fermented naturally with native yeasts and without excessive manipulation, then bottled as living wine, produced without fining agents, filtration or cold stabilization.
The Wines
The range centers on Sonoma Valley fruit, including a Sauvignon Blanc, made in a fresh, low-intervention style that reflects the farming behind it.
