Fattoria Mondo Antico

Fattoria Mondo Antico - natural wine producer profile | Primal Wine illustration

In the foothills of the Oltrepo Pavese, the Tiraboschi family runs Fattoria Mondo Antico as a living farm where vines, free-grazing cows, horses and pigs all play a part in the soil's fertility.

History and People

Dario Tiraboschi and his family farm the estate, which combines a winery with a genuine agriturismo. Their philosophy centers on simple agricultural techniques, such as animal and green manure, that let the vines reach full expression.

The Region

The farm sits in the small municipality of Rocca Susella, in the province of Pavia, in the Oltrepo Pavese district of Lombardy, northern Italy. The vineyards lie at around 400 meters of altitude.

Vineyards and Farming

The property covers about 26 hectares, with just over 4 hectares under vine. Farming is organic with integrated biodynamic techniques, using animal and green manure to nourish the soil. The vineyards are planted to the area's most typical varieties: Croatina, Barbera, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Winemaking

The Tiraboschi family ferment only with naturally occurring yeasts and do not fine or filter the wines, aiming for minimal intervention and pure varietal and site expression.

The Wines

Bottlings under the Collina del Pernione label include Alma and Agenore from Croatina, Sinodo from Barbera, and Perpolio from Chardonnay, plus a Pinot Nero.
