Domaine Cheveau

Domaine Cheveau - natural wine producer profile | Primal Wine illustration

In the hamlet of Pouilly, at the very heart of the Pouilly-Fuisse appellation, Domaine Cheveau has been making white Burgundy for three generations. What began as a modest holding in the 1950s is today a family estate stretching from the Maconnais into the Beaujolais.

Backstory

The estate's roots in Pouilly date to the 1950s, with the domaine established by Andre Cheveau in 1950. His son Michel, who married Jocelyne from a Saint-Amour vigneron family, expanded the parcels at the core of Pouilly-Fuisse. Their children Nicolas, Julien, and Nicolas's wife Aurelie now run the estate.

The Region

The domaine is centered on Pouilly-Fuisse in the southern Maconnais. In 2015 it extended toward the Beaujolais and Saint-Amour when the brothers' uncle Gerard Chaintreuil ceded his family property to his nephews on retirement.

Winemaking

Nicolas brought new energy to the estate in 1999 and, with Aurelie from 2002, built up bottle sales, while Julien joined in 2009 to manage equipment. Together they highlight the quality of the Pouilly-Fuisse terroir across a range of cuvees.

The Wines

Chardonnay is the heart of the range, led by Pouilly-Fuisse including the Sur le Mont bottling from Macon-Solutre-Pouilly, alongside Macon and the Saint-Amour reds added since 2015.
