Celler Xavier Clua

For four generations the Clua name has been tied to vines and wine in Terra Alta. The most recent generation, led by Xavier Clua, turned that inheritance from bulk wine into estate-bottled bottlings.

Backstory

The Clua family worked the vineyards for generations, selling wine in bulk. In 1995 the small family enterprise made the decisive shift to bottling a quality product under its own labels. Xavier Clua brought university training in viticulture and winemaking to the family's long practical experience, adding new perspectives and techniques.

The Region

The cellar sits in Vilalba dels Arcs, in the Terra Alta of Catalonia, a dry, sunny inland zone where vine-growing dates back to medieval times. The warm, arid climate shapes ripe, generous wines.

Vineyards and Farming

The estate grows a mix of local and international varieties. Alongside the regional Garnatxa, including white and hairy Grenache, the family works Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Wines

From these grapes Celler Xavier Clua produces a range of Terra Alta DO wines across white, red and rose, combining the region's Grenache heritage with international varieties under personal family labels.
