In the small Catalan village of Verdu, Casa Pardet has built a reputation for some of Spain's most uncompromising natural wines: biodynamic, additive-free, and often made with no added sulfites at all.
Backstory
Casa Pardet was founded in 1993 by Mia and Pep (Josep) Torres, with the explicit aim of producing biodynamic wines that carry the vitality of the vineyard into every bottle. The estate sits in Verdu, within the Costers del Segre denomination of Catalonia.
The Region
Costers del Segre is an inland Catalan appellation of scattered subzones. Casa Pardet's vineyards lie at roughly 400 meters above sea level on soils of limestone and clay, a combination that lends structure and freshness to the wines.
Vineyards & Farming
The estate farms about 5 hectares planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Trepat and Chardonnay, grown organically and biodynamically since 1999. The work follows the biodynamic calendar, with the position of the moon and stars guiding the timing of vineyard tasks.
Winemaking
In the cellar, intervention is kept to an absolute minimum. Fermentations are spontaneous, and the wines refine in stainless steel or amphorae. Nothing is filtered before bottling, and the estate is known for making wines without sulfites or other additives.
The Wines
The range spans varietal reds and whites from the estate's three grapes, plus a sweet bottling. They are pure, unadorned expressions meant to transmit the energy of biodynamically farmed Catalan vineyards.
