Tasting notes

Incrocio Manzoni is rarely seen as a varietal wine outside northeastern Italy, and Vigna Flor's version captures the grape's best qualities: white flower aromatics, stone fruit, and a saline mineral finish from Colli Euganei's volcanic and calcareous soils. The zero-additive approach keeps it transparent and food-friendly without being austere.

Vavavuma is a still white wine made from 100% Incrocio Manzoni (also known as Manzoni Bianco 6.0.13), a cross between Pinot Bianco and Riesling Renano developed by Professor Luigi Manzoni at the Conegliano School of Enology between 1930 and 1935. The grapes are manually destemmed, directly pressed, and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfites.

Vigna Flor farms two small vineyard parcels in the Colli Euganei hills near Padua. One rented parcel of approximately one hectare sits on terraced calcareous sedimentary soils on the southern slope of Monte Gemola. A second parcel of two hectares, purchased in 2020, lies in a small valley between Monte Cinto and Monte Partizzon in Cinto Euganeo, on basalt-dominated volcanic soils. The winery is based in Monselice. Farming follows organic and synergistic agriculture principles, with no oenological additives used at any stage.

Incrocio Manzoni produces wines that are full for a white, with a balance of crisp acidity and body inherited from its Pinot Bianco and Riesling parents. Expect pale straw with green highlights, aromas of white flowers and ripe stone fruit, and a mineral, saline finish that reflects the volcanic and calcareous character of the Colli Euganei.

The Colli Euganei DOC, established in 1969, covers a cluster of volcanic hills rising from the Padovan-Venetian plain just south of Padua. Soils here include basalt, trachyte, rhyolite, and latite, with pockets of calcareous sedimentary material. Vineyards are planted between 50 and nearly 400 meters above sea level. The climate is near-Mediterranean, with hot dry summers and significant day-to-night temperature swings that preserve acidity.

The wine's acidity and mineral character make it a natural match for grilled or baked white fish, clams with pasta, and risotto with vegetables or mushrooms. It also works well with fresh sheep's milk cheese or soft goat cheese. Dishes with herbal or citrus elements bring out the Riesling-like aromatic side of the grape.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Vigna Flor

Vigna Flor was launched in 2019 by Davide Boldrin and Francesca Gozzo, a couple who spent roughly fifteen years running a restaurant and natural wine shop in Monselice, in the province of Padua. That experience gave them close contact with natural wine producers and eventually led them to start making wine themselves. They learned winemaking by apprenticing at I Castagnucoli in the Colli Euganei, where Nicola also provided cellar space for their first vintage. The project is named after their daughter Flora.

Vigna Flor farms two parcels in the Colli Euganei hills. The first, approximately one hectare, is a rented terraced vineyard on calcareous sedimentary soils on the southern slope of Monte Gemola. The second, two hectares purchased in 2020, sits in a small valley between Monte Cinto and Monte Partizzon in Cinto Euganeo, on basalt-dominated volcanic soils. The winery is located in Monselice, about twenty minutes southeast of the vineyards. Farming is guided by organic principles and synergistic agriculture, inspired by permaculture, with no synthetic inputs used.

In the cellar, Vigna Flor uses no oenological additives of any kind, including sulfur. For the Vavavuma, grapes are manually destemmed, directly pressed, and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine is aged on its lees and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Total production across all wines is small-batch.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

The Colli Euganei (Euganean Hills) rise from the flat Padovan-Venetian plain just south of Padua, their cone-shaped profiles the result of ancient volcanic activity. The DOC was established in 1969 and covers vineyards planted between 50 and nearly 400 meters above sea level. Soils are a mix of volcanic rocks including basalt, trachyte, rhyolite, and latite, along with calcareous sedimentary zones. The climate is near-Mediterranean, with hot dry summers moderated by significant day-to-night temperature swings that preserve acidity and aromatic freshness in the grapes.

The appellation permits a wide range of varieties. White grapes authorized include Garganega, Glera, Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Moscato Giallo, and Chardonnay, while red plantings feature Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Carmenere. The only DOCG within the zone is Colli Euganei Fior d'Arancio, reserved for wines made from Moscato Giallo. Calcareous soils in the area are particularly suited to white varieties, while the basalt-rich volcanic zones tend to produce more structured and mineral-driven wines.
