Tasting notes

This is not a conventional Beaujolais red — the 2-day macerated Gamay is pressed directly into Dreyer's Alsatian white field blend, giving the wine a pale hue, silky texture, and the kind of lifted cranberry and wild strawberry character that makes it drink more like a serious rosé than a red. The cross-regional, friend-to-friend swap format means production is tiny and the concept will never scale.

J'Aime is a magnum-only wine made from a cross-regional exchange between two friends: Raphael Beysang of Lapins des Vignes in Saint-Germain-Nuelles, southern Beaujolais, and Jean-Marc Dreyer of Rosheim in Bas-Rhin, Alsace. Beysang contributes young-vine Gamay that undergoes a 2-day maceration, which is then pressed directly into a field blend of Alsatian white varieties from Dreyer — including Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc among others. The two producers meet halfway between their estates, in Burgundy, to exchange grapes. Only 60 magnums of this 2019 vintage were imported into the United States.

The result is a light red sitting at the boundary between red and white: pale in color, with low tannins, bright acidity, and a texture shaped by the skin-contact whites. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfites. The wine is classified Vin de France, as the blend crosses two distinct regions.

Both producers farm without synthetic chemistry. Beysang manages approximately 7 hectares biodynamically in the Pierres Dorées (golden stone) zone of southern Beaujolais, where soils shift between clay-limestone, granite, and alluvial deposits. Dreyer's 6-hectare estate in Rosheim spans 25 parcels on clay-limestone soils and has been certified biodynamic since 2003. Neither producer adds sulfur to finished wines.

Works well with charcuterie, saucisson, and cured meats where the acidity cuts through fat. Try it lightly chilled alongside grilled chicken with herbs or a mild fresh chevre. The low tannin and bright fruit also make it a practical match for salmon and other fatty fish.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Rapahel Beysang

Raphael Beysang was born in Alsace to a family of restaurant owners, with a grandfather who grew grapes. He began working vineyards with the Meyer family in Nothalten, Alsace, then trained under Patrick Meyer and later Jean-Marc Dreyer before moving to the Auvergne to work with Vincent Marie of No Control. It was there he met Emélie Hurtubise, originally from Quebec, who had been working with Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau at Domaine de la Boheme. The two established their domaine, Lapins des Vignes, in Saint-Germain-Nuelles in 2017.

Beysang and Hurtubise manage approximately 7 hectares of Gamay biodynamically in the Pierres Dorées zone of southern Beaujolais. Soils across their parcels include clay-limestone, granite, alluvial deposits, and golden stone. Vineyard work is done with a horse. No synthetic chemistry is used; treatments are limited to copper, sulfur, and biodynamic herbal preparations including nettle, horsetail, and comfrey. Fruit trees are planted between vine rows.

In the cellar, Beysang and Hurtubise follow a zero-zero approach: indigenous yeast fermentation only, no additives at any stage, no fining, no filtration, and no added sulfites. J'Aime is a special case in their lineup — it is a collaboration wine produced exclusively in magnum format, in which young-vine Gamay undergoes a 2-day maceration at Beysang's cellar before being pressed into Jean-Marc Dreyer's Alsatian white field blend. Jean-Marc Dreyer operates a 6-hectare certified biodynamic estate in Rosheim, Bas-Rhin, about 25 kilometers southwest of Strasbourg, growing Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner, and Pinot Noir across 25 parcels. Dreyer also uses indigenous yeasts exclusively, ages in large Alsatian oak foudres, and adds no sulfites.

Wine region

Beaujolais, France

Beaujolais stretches roughly 55 kilometers north to south and 25 kilometers east to west, sitting between the southern tip of Burgundy and the northern outskirts of Lyon. The region was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2018, reflecting its exceptional geological diversity: more than 300 distinct soil types have been mapped, ranging from granitic hillsides in the north to clay, limestone, and alluvial plains in the south. Saint-Germain-Nuelles, where Beysang is based, sits in the southern Beaujolais zone known as the Pierres Dorées — named for the ochre limestone used in local construction — where soils are a mix of clay-limestone, granite, and alluvium.

The southern Beaujolais falls under the Beaujolais AOC appellation and is planted almost exclusively with Gamay. The region broadly divides into three quality tiers: Beaujolais AOC (entry level, southern), Beaujolais-Villages AOC (38 designated communes), and the 10 Crus in the northern granite-dominated hills — Brouilly, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Fleurie, and six others. The clay and limestone soils of the south tend to produce Gamay that is softer, more fruit-forward, and earlier-drinking than the structured, mineral wines from the granite Crus of the north.
