Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to re-route a package after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

Meinklang

Weingut Heinrich is a pioneering biodynamic winery located in Gols, Burgenland, Austria, on the northeastern shores of Lake Neusiedl. Founded by Gernot and Heike Heinrich in 1990, the estate began with just one hectare and has expanded to nearly 90 hectares of vineyards spread across diverse terroirs around the lake.

The Heinrich family became trailblazers in Austrian winemaking, being among the first producers in Burgenland to transition from simple white wine production to crafting high-quality red wines. They recognized the potential of local varietals including Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and St. Laurent, establishing their reputation for powerful, concentrated wines.

In 2006, Heinrich converted their entire operation to biodynamic farming, becoming founding members of Respekt, Austria's certifying body for biodynamic viticulture. Their philosophy centers on minimal intervention winemaking, allowing wines the time needed to achieve natural balance while expressing precise terroir characteristics.

The estate's vineyards occupy contrasting terroirs: eastern plots on alluvial soils and red gravel in the warmer Parndorfer Platte, and western sites on limestone and schist slopes of the Leithaberg mountains, where cooler conditions and longer sun exposure create different wine styles. This diversity enables Heinrich to produce a comprehensive range from entry-level "Naked" wines to premium single-vineyard bottlings.

Heinrich specializes in both indigenous Austrian varieties and international grapes, crafting everything from their acclaimed orange wine "Naked Orange" to structured reds aged in amphorae. Their commitment to biodynamic practices reflects their belief that healthy ecosystems produce superior wines with authentic expressions of place, making them leaders in Austria's natural wine movement.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria

Burgenland is Austria's easternmost wine region, bordering Hungary and stretching along the western shores of Lake Neusiedl (Neusiedlersee). This unique geographical position creates a distinctive terroir influenced by the Pannonian climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and cold winters with significant diurnal temperature variations that favor optimal grape ripening and aromatic development.

Lake Neusiedl, Central Europe's largest steppe lake, serves as a crucial moderating influence on the regional climate. The shallow, reed-fringed lake stores heat during summer days and releases it gradually at night, extending the growing season and protecting vineyards from extreme temperature fluctuations. This thermal regulation is particularly beneficial for late-ripening varieties and contributes to the region's ability to produce both dry wines and exceptional dessert wines affected by noble rot.

The region's diverse soil composition creates distinct terroir zones. Eastern areas feature alluvial soils mixed with red gravel and sand, providing excellent drainage and heat retention. Western slopes of the Leithaberg mountains contain limestone, schist, and mica-schist soils that impart mineral complexity and structure to wines. These varied geological formations, combined with elevations ranging from lake level to 400 meters, allow winemakers to cultivate different grape varieties across microclimates.

Burgenland's continental Pannonian climate receives warm, dry winds from the Hungarian plains, creating ideal conditions for red wine production. The region experiences approximately 2,000 hours of annual sunshine with relatively low rainfall, concentrating flavors in grapes.
