Az. Agr. Denavolo Dinavolino Orange 2022

Price: $40.00
Tasting notes

Dinavolino shows a golden amber color with a natural haze and an aromatic, lifted nose of orange blossom, citrus zest, chamomile, honey, and beeswax. The palate is medium-bodied with lively acidity, integrated skin-contact tannins, juicy citrus fruit, and a saline finish. It comes from the lower, more accessible section of the Débé hillside, giving a lighter, fruitier, and more approachable style than Dinavolo.

Dinavolino is an orange wine made by Giulio Armani at Azienda Agricola Denavolo, his personal project founded in 2005 on the slopes of Monte Denavolo in the commune of Travo, Val Trebbia, Province of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna. It is produced from a blend of roughly 25% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Ortrugo, 25% Marsanne, and 25% an unidentified local variety, grown on the lower slope of the Débé plot on clay-limestone soils. The white grapes are processed as reds would be: destemmed, macerated on their skins for several months, and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. It is aged in stainless steel and bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites.

Pair with tagliatelle al ragù bolognese, Parmigiano-Reggiano, roast chicken with herbs, and grilled sardines. It also works with local salumi, filled ravioli pasta, and delicate fish. Charcuterie, soft-rind cheese, and grilled calamari are further options.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Azienda Agricola Denavolo

Azienda Agricola Denavolo is the personal project of Giulio Armani, founded in 2005 on the slopes of Monte Denavolo in the commune of Travo, Val Trebbia, Province of Piacenza. Giulio has been the winemaker at La Stoppa, the natural wine estate in the Piacenza hills, since 1980, working first with founder Rafael Pantaleoni and later with his daughter Elena Pantaleoni. The estate covers approximately 5 hectares in total, producing about 20,000 bottles a year, and Giulio's son Giacomo now leads much of the work at the farm.

All wines at Denavolo are made from organic grapes. The oldest vines were planted in 1975 on clay-limestone soils, and the fruit is hand-harvested with intensive vineyard sorting. The continental climate and mountain winds allow Giulio to farm without synthetic treatments.

At Denavolo, white grapes are processed exactly as reds would be: destemmed, macerated on their skins for months, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and aged in stainless steel without any additions. The grapes are harvested with a lower alcohol potential so the must is quite acidic, which allows Armani to produce without adding sulphites, since the acidity protects the wine. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Wine region

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Denavolo's vineyards sit on the hills that divide the Trebbia Valley from the Nure Valley, two tributary rivers of the Po, in the Province of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna. The climate of the upper Val Trebbia is continental, with hot dry summers, cold winters, and strong mountain winds that reduce disease pressure naturally. The valley's geology is predominantly calcareous, with limestone ridges, calcareous clay hillsides, and thin rocky soils on the steeper upper slopes.

The Colli Piacentini DOC formalizes the region's wine identity today, and Pliny the Elder wrote of the wines of Piacenza in the first century AD. Ortrugo is an indigenous variety cultivated only in the Piacenza area, while Marsanne is known locally as Sciampagnino. Denavolo's wines are classified as natural table wines, as Giulio Armani deliberately avoids DOC or IGT designation to preserve full freedom in winemaking.
