Product description

Andi Weigand Silvaner 2023 is a natural white wine crafted from 100% Silvaner grapes grown on 50-year-old vines in Iphofen, within Germany's Franken region. The vineyards sit on Keuper soil—a distinctive blend of marl and limestone that imparts pronounced minerality. Andi Weigand hand-harvests the grapes and presses them using an 80-year-old basket press, then ferments the juice spontaneously in 1,250-liter oak barrels. Andi Weigand Silvaner 2023 rests on full lees for 10 months before bottling unfined, unfiltered, and without any added sulfites—a true zero-zero natural wine.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Andi Weigand

Andi Weigand represents a new wave of German winemakers transforming family estates through natural viticulture. His father was the first generation to produce wine in the family, and Andi assumed winemaking responsibilities in 2015. By 2018, he had converted the entire operation to certified organic farming and committed to natural winemaking—a decision his father supported despite it being unusual for the region and generation.

The estate's vineyards occupy slopes on the Iphöfer Kronsberg, one of Franken's most respected sites. Vines range from 15 to over 60 years old, planted on the distinctive Keuper soils that define the Steigerwald zone. Andi works with traditional Franconian varieties: Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe, Bacchus, and Riesling, along with some Pinot Noir.

Equipment at the winery reflects a hands-on philosophy. An 80-year-old basket press handles all grape processing, while fermentation occurs in 10-year-old 1,250-liter oak barrels. Indigenous yeasts drive spontaneous fermentation without temperature control. Wines spend extended time on their full lees—typically 10 months—developing texture and complexity before bottling. Nothing is added: no fining, no filtration, no sulfites whatsoever. Every wine leaves the cellar as a pure expression of grape and place.

Andi credits fellow Franken natural winemakers 2Naturkinder with introducing him to this community and approach. He also collaborates with Brand Brothers and shares vineyard management with other local producers. The cuvée names often reference Andi's passion for hip-hop and rock music, adding personality to wines that already stand out for their depth and authenticity.

Wine region

Franken, Germany

Franken (Franconia) occupies the northwest corner of Bavaria, stretching along the Main River from Aschaffenburg to Iphofen. This ancient wine region traces its viticultural roots back over 1,200 years—documents from 777 CE record Emperor Charlemagne granting vineyard land to Fulda Abbey. Unlike most German wine regions where Riesling dominates, Franken has built its identity around Silvaner, a grape that achieves rare depth and complexity here.

The region divides into three geological zones, each defined by distinct soil types formed during the Triassic period. The western Mainviereck features red Buntsandstein (sandstone). The central Maindreieck around Würzburg sits on Muschelkalk (shell limestone). To the east, the Steigerwald—where Iphofen and Andi Weigand's vineyards are located—contains Keuper soils: a mix of gypsum, marl, and limestone that retains heat and moisture while delivering intense minerality to the wines.

Climate in Franken is continental with cold winters and warm summers. The Main River and its tributaries moderate temperature extremes, while significant day-to-night variation preserves natural acidity in the grapes. Vineyards occupy south-facing slopes that maximize sun exposure in this relatively northern latitude. Nearly all Franken wines are vinified bone-dry (trocken), emphasizing clarity of fruit and terroir expression over residual sugar.

A new generation of vignerons has revitalized Franken's natural wine scene. Producers like Andi Weigand and 2Naturkinder work with indigenous varieties, old vines, and minimal intervention, crafting wines that honor tradition while embracing modern natural winemaking principles.
