Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Returns Policy

Producer profile

Wonderwerk Co.

Wonderwerk was founded in 2017 by Issamu Kamide and Andrew Lardy, two longtime friends who grew up together in Virginia before relocating to California. The label's name is borrowed from Wonderwerk Cave in South Africa, a site believed to hold the earliest archaeological evidence of human cooking and fire, a reference the founders use to frame their interest in fermentation as something ancient, fundamental, and social.

Lardy brought winemaking credentials to the partnership. He initially studied neuropsychology before pivoting to enology, enrolling in the Fresno State Enology program and working harvests at several Central Coast wineries before joining Wonderwerk full time. He currently also serves as Head Distiller at Spirit Guild Distillery in downtown Los Angeles. Kamide came from a background in brand management and consumer packaged goods, including work for health and wellness beverage brands in Los Angeles. He holds a WSET Level 3 certification and focuses on marketing, product development, and brand strategy for the label.

Wonderwerk produces wine at the Atelier des Savants Fous custom crush facility in Gilroy, a nine-winery shared production space with temperature-controlled infrastructure. Fruit is sourced from a shifting network of responsibly farmed vineyards across California, selected by the winemakers on the basis of farming practice and flavor character rather than appellation prestige.

The label divides its range into three lines. The BIG wines are one-liter format bottles designed for sharing: BIG Orange, BIG Juicy, and BIG Crispy. The Club Music series covers more experimental and collaborative bottlings. The Italifornia line, of which Al Fresco is a part, focuses on Italian grape varieties and Italian-inspired blends adapted to California growing conditions, with three wines in the range: Marinara, a red blend; Al Fresco, a white; and Riviera, a rosé. Across all three lines, the approach is consistent: native yeast fermentation, no fining, no filtration, and minimal additions.

Wine region

California, United States

Wonderwerk sources fruit from responsibly farmed vineyards across California and produces its wines at the Atelier des Savants Fous custom crush facility in Gilroy, a city in the southern Santa Clara Valley in Santa Clara County, roughly 30 miles south of San Jose. Gilroy sits at the northern end of the Pajaro River watershed, where the Santa Clara Valley meets the terrain that transitions toward Monterey County and the Central Coast. The area is best known as the garlic capital of the world, but its location within reach of multiple Central Coast and Bay Area wine regions makes it a practical base for négociant and custom crush operations drawing fruit from a wide geographic range.

California's white wine landscape is exceptionally diverse. Sauvignon Blanc performs well across a range of sites, from the warm Livermore Valley in Alameda County to the cooler, maritime-influenced vineyards of the Clarksburg AVA in the Sacramento Delta, where deep alluvial soils and a persistent Delta breeze from San Francisco Bay create growing conditions that favor fresh acidity and aromatic precision. Chenin Blanc, long underplanted relative to its potential in California, has found particularly strong footing in Clarksburg, where chalky-influenced alluvial soils and moderate summer temperatures produce wines with structure and freshness.

California as a whole has over 630,000 acres of planted vineyard, making it by far the largest wine-producing state in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The state spans over 1,200 miles from north to south, encompassing a range of climates from the very cool and fog-heavy Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara's Sta. Rita Hills to the warm and sunny Central Valley. This geographic diversity allows California producers to source a wide range of varieties, often blending fruit from multiple regions to build wines with specific flavor profiles. For Wonderwerk, that flexibility is central to its model: the Italifornia range draws on Italian-heritage varieties and Italian-inspired blends grown in California conditions.
