Tasting notes

Pale straw with green highlights and brilliant clarity. The nose is fresh and aromatic, with grapefruit zest, lime, fresh-cut grass, white peach, and a faint floral note. On the palate, light-bodied and dry, with vibrant acidity, clean citrus fruit, and a crisp, mineral-edged finish.

  • Style: Dry, light-bodied white built for immediate enjoyment; the stainless steel approach preserves Sauvignon Blanc's inherent brightness, herbaceous aromatics, and citrus-forward freshness without any oak influence or added weight; at roughly 13% ABV it remains lively and easy to drink
  • Grapes & terroir: 100% Sauvignon Blanc from certified organic vineyards in Santa Barbara County, in the Los Alamos area and Santa Ynez Valley; vineyards selected by Mike Testa, a fifth-generation Santa Maria farmer and partner at Coastal Vineyard Care Associates
  • Winemaking: Hand-selected organic grapes; stainless steel fermentation; minimal intervention throughout; low or no added sulfites; unfined; the wine is the product of a three-way collaboration between winemaker Andrew Jones (Field Recordings), grower Mike Testa, and brand creator Jamil Williams
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve well chilled at 44–48°F; no decanting; best consumed young while the aromatics are fresh
  • Pairing: Grilled branzino with lemon and herbs (a classic Mediterranean pairing for crisp, aromatic whites)
  • Similar to: La Gaspard Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire, organic Sauvignon Blanc from Napa's cooler sites, Domaine Vacheron Sancerre

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Returns Policy

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact us at (424) 414-2040 or via e-mail at hello@primalwine.com between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Sunday, we would like to understand and try to solve your concerns. We can offer refunds only as store credit.

Producer profile

So Far Out

So Far Out is a California wine brand founded by three partners whose backgrounds together cover every stage of the wine industry from vine to glass. Andrew Jones is the winemaker and the technical mind behind the label — a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate who started making wine in his attic before building Field Recordings into one of California's most recognized natural wine brands, one of the largest producers of pétillant naturel in the state. His day job as a nursery fieldman — planning and planting vineyards across California — has given him an unusually deep familiarity with the state's viticultural sites, and that knowledge shapes how So Far Out sources its fruit.

Mike Testa is a fifth-generation farmer from Santa Maria and a partner at Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, the largest vineyard management company in Santa Barbara County. His role at So Far Out is to select and manage the organic vineyards from which all the wines are sourced — a responsibility he takes seriously, focusing his own properties on organic farming and sustainable practices. The third partner, Jamil Williams, comes from the retail and distribution side of the wine industry. He worked at Blue Hill Wine before moving to California, managed the influential Silverlake Wine shop in Los Angeles, and went on to Amy Atwood Selections, where he first connected closely with Andrew Jones. Williams handles the brand direction and commercial identity of So Far Out.

The three founded So Far Out with a straightforward set of commitments: 100% organic grapes, 100% Santa Barbara County sourcing, minimal intervention in the cellar, and pricing that keeps the wines accessible. Their tasting room operates at the Martian Ranch in the Alisos Canyon area near Los Alamos. The range spans white, red, rosé, and sparkling wines, all built around the same organic, low-intervention philosophy.

Wine region

California, United States

Santa Barbara County in Southern California is defined by a geographical accident that sets it apart from nearly every other wine region in the state. While most of California's mountain ranges run north to south, the Santa Ynez and San Rafael Mountains here run east to west, creating a series of transverse valleys that funnel cool Pacific Ocean air directly inland. The result is a county where temperatures on a summer afternoon can vary by 50°F between the fog-cooled western end of the Santa Ynez Valley and the warm eastern reaches — an extraordinary climatic range compressed into a relatively small territory.

Los Alamos, where So Far Out is based, sits in the northern part of Santa Barbara County between the Santa Maria Valley and the Santa Ynez Valley. The town and its surrounding vineyards lie in the Alisos Canyon area, which received its own AVA designation in 2020 — a recognition of the distinct east-west corridor that channels marine breezes from the Pacific, approximately 20 miles to the west, into the valley on a daily basis. Soils in the area include diatomaceous earth, limestone, marine sediment, and sandy loam — a geological fingerprint of the ancient seabed that once covered this part of California.

For Sauvignon Blanc specifically, the coolness of the marine air and the long growing season it creates are significant advantages. The variety tends to lose its aromatic character quickly in warmer climates; here, slow, even ripening preserves the grape's natural citrus and herbaceous profile and maintains the acidity that makes it food-friendly rather than flat. The Santa Ynez Valley as a whole is home to over 200 wineries and tasting rooms producing a wide range of varieties, from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the cooler western zones to Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc in the warmer interior. Los Alamos itself has become a significant destination for natural and organic wine producers in recent years.
