Tenuta Santa Lucia Pagadebit 2024 comes from the Upper Savio Valley in Romagna, where the estate farms 12 hectares of vineyards at 250 meters elevation near Mercato Saraceno. The grape—Pagadebit, locally named Bombino Bianco—earned its name from farmers who could "pay their debts" thanks to its reliable yields even in difficult vintages. Tenuta Santa Lucia cultivates biodynamically (Demeter certified), considering lunar phases in both vineyard and cellar. Hand-harvested grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel, then age six months on lees. The result is a clean, mineral-driven white that expresses Romagna's terroir.

Frittata con piselli, grilled branzino, raw oysters, seafood risotto, vegetable antipasti, prosciutto e melone, white fish carpaccio, light pasta dishes.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Tenuta Santa Lucia

Established in the early 1960s, the Santa Lucia estate is a result of merging the lands owned by the family patriarch with those of his father. This union created a substantial farm of about 100 hectares, with 12 hectares dedicated to vineyards. These vineyards, located 250 meters above sea level in Mercato Saraceno within the Savio valley, lie at the heart of Romagna.

Initially, like many estates of its time, Santa Lucia was focused on self-sufficiency, producing an array of products, including cheese, fruit, and wine. However, as the 1990s ended, the estate shifted its focus primarily to viticulture. This transition saw significant changes both in the vineyards and the cellars.

Today, Santa Lucia's vineyards are cultivated using organic farming methods. The estate employs the espalier system for vine training and follows Guyot pruning techniques. Embracing both organic and natural wine production, Santa Lucia has recently started experimenting with biodynamic practices. This involves considering the lunar phases in their viticulture and vinification processes. Such a holistic approach has yielded impressive results, further bolstering Santa Lucia's stature in the wine industry.

Wine region

Emilia–Romagna, Italy

Romagna forms the eastern half of Emilia-Romagna, stretching from the Apennine foothills to the Adriatic coast in north-central Italy. While Emilia (the western portion) claims fame for Lambrusco and the culinary cities of Bologna, Parma, and Modena, Romagna has carved its own identity through native grape varieties that thrive on its rolling hills and clay-limestone soils.

The region's viticultural history dates to Etruscan and Roman times, when settlers recognized the potential of these sun-drenched slopes. Romagna's terroir varies considerably: the coastal plains offer sandy, alluvial soils, while the inland hills—rising toward the Apennines at elevations between 200 and 500 meters—feature well-drained clay and limestone that stress vines just enough to concentrate flavors. The continental climate delivers hot summers moderated by cooling breezes from both the Adriatic Sea and the mountains.

Sangiovese dominates red wine production in Romagna, yielding wines with bright acidity, cherry fruit, and firm tannins that distinguish them from Tuscan interpretations. For whites, Albana holds historic significance as Italy's first white wine to receive DOCG status in 1987, produced in styles ranging from dry to passito. Lesser-known varieties like Pagadebit (Bombino Bianco), Famoso, and Centesimino represent Romagna's commitment to preserving indigenous grapes that nearly disappeared during the 20th century's push toward international varieties.

The Upper Savio Valley, where Tenuta Santa Lucia farms near Mercato Saraceno, typifies Romagna's hillside viticulture—small family estates working native varieties on challenging terrain. In recent years, natural wine producers have revitalized Romagna's reputation, embracing organic and biodynamic farming while crafting wines through spontaneous fermentation and minimal intervention. This approach has positioned Romagna alongside Emilia's pioneering estates as a compelling destination for drinkers seeking authentic, terroir-driven Italian wine.
