Tasting notes

Warm amber-gold with a hazy, glowing depth from skin contact. The nose is aromatic and layered, with mandarin, lychee, dried apricot, orange blossom, and a hint of ginger. On the palate, the wine is dry, textured, and lively, with orange pith, stone fruit, and a clean, mineral finish.

  • Style: Dry, medium-bodied skin-contact orange wine with a pronounced aromatic intensity; the combination of Muscat d'Alexandrie and Grenache Gris gives the wine a textural richness and floral-tropical aromatic profile that is unusual even within the skin-contact category; lively acidity cuts through the fruit
  • Grapes & terroir: Muscat d'Alexandrie, Grenache Gris, Riesling, and Auxerrois, plus other aromatic white varieties depending on vintage; sourced from organically farmed growers in Languedoc (Canet-en-Roussillon, Pézenas, Pinet) and Auvergne; vinified at the Domaine La Bohème cellar in the Puy-de-Dôme; Vin de France classification
  • Winemaking: Each variety vinified and macerated separately in amphorae for one to three weeks; spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts; aged in a combination of terracotta amphorae and fiberglass tanks; blended before bottling in spring; unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfur
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 52–56°F; pour freely without decanting; a wide-bowl glass helps develop the aromatics over the first 15 minutes in the glass
  • Pairing: Grilled gambas al ajillo (Spanish garlic prawns)

Domaine La Bohème G&M 2023 is a dry skin-contact white wine crafted by Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau as part of the négociant range under the Domaine La Bohème label. The name stands for Grenache and Muscat, the two aromatic varieties that anchor every edition of this cuvée. Grapes are sourced from trusted organic growers across Languedoc and Auvergne, including Muscat d'Alexandrie from Canet-en-Roussillon and Grenache Gris, alongside Riesling and Auxerrois. Each variety is vinified and macerated separately in amphorae before blending. Domaine La Bohème G&M 2023 is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfur. Vin de France.

Gambas al ajillo, roasted pumpkin with preserved lemon, aged mimolette, Japanese miso-glazed fish, spiced Moroccan carrot salad, grilled halloumi.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine la Bohème

Domaine La Bohème is the project of Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau, based in Saint-Georges-sur-Allier in Auvergne's Puy-de-Dôme. Patrick's route into wine was unconventional. He studied chemistry in Clermont-Ferrand before discovering a personal intolerance to sulfites that made conventional wine uncomfortable to drink. Military service in Chalon-sur-Saône in the mid-1990s brought him into contact with producers working without additions, and that encounter redirected his career. He went on to study viticulture in Beaune and returned to Auvergne to start farming, releasing his first commercial vintage in 2002 and leaving his engineering job in 2008 to focus entirely on winemaking.

Today the estate manages around 8 to 9 hectares of its own vines in the Puy-de-Dôme, with parcels spread across several communes on volcanic and clay-limestone soils. Some vines are over 120 years old. Horse-drawn ploughing is standard throughout, and all farming follows organic and biodynamic principles. Patrick handles most of the work himself, from vineyard to bottling.

The négociant line, which expanded from 2014 onward, allows Patrick and Justine to work beyond the constraints of their own Auvergne harvests and bring in aromatic varieties and terroirs from across France. G&M is among the most widely recognized wines from this line, built around the striking combination of Grenache Gris and Muscat d'Alexandrie sourced from the Roussillon and Languedoc and vinified in Auvergne with whole-cluster maceration in amphorae. The blend changes from vintage to vintage, but the aromatic intensity and textured, dry skin-contact profile remain its defining character.

Wine region

Auvergne, France

Auvergne sits in the interior of France, in the Massif Central, where an ancient chain of extinct volcanoes defines the landscape of the Puy-de-Dôme department. The soils here are unlike those of any other French wine region: basalt lava flows, pozzolan, volcanic tuff, and clay-limestone create a mosaic of terroirs at elevations between 350 and 600 metres. The continental climate brings cold winters, warm summers, and significant day-to-night temperature swings through the growing season, all of which favour freshness and acidity in the wines.

G&M is a négociant wine, meaning its grapes do not originate from the Auvergne domaine vineyards. Instead, Patrick Bouju sources from organic growers in Languedoc: Muscat d'Alexandrie from Canet-en-Roussillon in the Roussillon, and Grenache Gris, Viognier, Ugni Blanc, and other varieties from Pézenas and Pinet in the Hérault. Chardonnay from Patrick's own Auvergne vines has historically joined the blend as well. The vinification, however, takes place entirely in Auvergne at the Domaine La Bohème cellar. Patrick's philosophy holds that the cellar itself is part of the terroir, inseparable from the wine's final character.

Auvergne received the Côtes d'Auvergne AOC designation in 2011, covering five named subzones: Corent, Boudes, Chanturgue, Châteaugay, and Madargue. These are focused primarily on Gamay and Pinot Noir for reds and Chardonnay for whites. The region has seen a significant revival in natural and organic winemaking over the past two decades, with producers like Patrick Bouju playing a central role in that resurgence. Vin de France, the classification used for G&M, allows complete flexibility in grape sourcing across France.
