  • Grapes & terroir: Albana and Bombino Bianco, indigenous Romagna varieties; estate vineyards at 250 metres above sea level in Mercato Saraceno, Savio valley, Emilia-Romagna; clay, silt, and sand soils; organic and biodynamic farming with espalier training and Guyot pruning
  • Winemaking: Skin contact to extract color and aromatic complexity; spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts; ancestral method (refermentation in bottle); bottled unfiltered; no added sulfur

Tenuta Santa Lucia Ars Amandi 2021 is a sparkling skin-contact white wine made from a blend of Albana and Bombino Bianco, two indigenous Romagna varieties grown organically and biodynamically at the Santa Lucia estate in Mercato Saraceno, in the Savio valley, at 250 metres above sea level. The estate, led by Paride Benedetti, trains vines on an espalier system with Guyot pruning. Ars Amandi undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, sees skin contact that gives it its amber color, and is bottled unfiltered using the ancestral method to capture a natural sparkle. 12% ABV.

Erbazzone reggiano, Thai green curry, burrata with citrus, grilled branzino, pickled vegetables, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, Japanese yakitori skewers.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Tenuta Santa Lucia

Tenuta Santa Lucia is a family estate managed by Paride Benedetti in Mercato Saraceno in the Savio valley, Romagna. The estate was founded in the early 1960s when Benedetti's father combined his land with that of the family's grandfather, creating a farm of around 100 hectares, of which 12 are planted with vineyards. For much of its history the estate was a self-sufficient mixed farm producing cheese, fruit, and wine. Toward the end of the 1990s, Benedetti made the decision to specialize in viticulture, a transition that involved a complete overhaul of both vineyard management and cellar practices.

Today, all 12 hectares of vines are farmed organically, trained on the espalier system with Guyot pruning. In more recent years, Benedetti has incorporated biodynamic practices into both the vineyard and the cellar, including consideration of lunar phases in timing harvests, rackings, and bottlings. The estate grows the indigenous varieties of the Romagna hills: Sangiovese, Albana, Famoso, Centesimino, and Bombino Bianco. Across the range, the approach in the cellar is minimal: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no added sulfur, and no fining or filtration.

Ars Amandi sits alongside a range of sparkling and still wines that reflect different facets of the estate's terroir and grape varieties. The name "Ars Amandi" is a nod to Ovid's ancient guide to love, giving the wine a playful, humanistic identity that matches its approachable, aromatic character.

Wine region

Emilia–Romagna, Italy

Romagna is the eastern half of the combined Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, stretching from the Apennine foothills in the south and west to the Adriatic coast. It is a viticultural territory with a long history of native varieties and a strong tradition of family-run estates working the rolling hills between the mountains and the sea. The city of Forlì-Cesena is the administrative center of the hills where much of Romagna's most distinctive wine is produced, and the Savio, Rubicone, and Ronco river valleys cut through this terrain, creating distinct mesoclimates and soil compositions.

Mercato Saraceno, where Tenuta Santa Lucia is located, sits in the Savio valley in the foothills of the Apennines, at an elevation of around 250 metres. The soils in this part of Romagna are a mixture of clay, silt, and sand, with good drainage on the hillside plots. The altitude moderates temperatures compared to the coastal plains and extends the growing season, helping grapes develop aromatic complexity and retain natural acidity.

Romagna has two white grape varieties of particular significance: Albana, which holds the distinction of being the first Italian white grape to receive its own DOCG designation (Albana di Romagna DOCG, now Romagna Albana Spumante DOCG and Romagna DOCG for still wines), and Trebbiano Romagnolo. Albana is an aromatic variety capable of producing wines in a range of styles, from dry to passito, while Bombino Bianco, also known as Pagadebit in Romagna, is a versatile grape that adds freshness and body to blends. The region also grows Sangiovese for reds, and Centesimino, a rare indigenous red variety found almost exclusively in this zone.
