Tasting notes

At 4.2% ABV, this is piquette in its most honest form: dry, lightly fizzy, and built on Pinot Noir pomace rather than juice, so it carries vinous structure without any of the weight. Tart raspberry and watermelon come through cleanly thanks to crossflow filtration and forced CO2, giving it a crispness closer to a great sparkling water than a conventional wine.

  • Style: Bone-dry, lightly sparkling piquette; pale ruby-pink; tart raspberry and watermelon; 4.2% ABV
  • Grapes & Terroir: Pinot Noir pomace + underripe Pinot Gris juice; organically farmed; northern Willamette Valley, Oregon
  • Winemaking: Pomace re-fermented with water; native yeasts; racked twice; crossflow filtered; bottled with added CO2
  • Serving: Serve well chilled at 40-45F; no decant needed; drink fresh
  • Pairing: Brunch dishes, smoked salmon, salads, fried chicken, soft cheese, grilled vegetables
  • Similar To: For fans of sparkling water, light rosé, or anyone avoiding high-alcohol drinks without sacrificing vinous character

Piquette is one of winemaking's oldest byproducts: after Pinot Noir pomace is pressed, it still holds residual sugar, color, and flavor. Andy Young of St. Reginald Parish filled fermentation bins with that pressed pomace plus water, gave the mixture a few days of skin maceration, then drained the liquid to tank and re-pressed the pomace back into it. A small amount of underripe Pinot Gris juice was added to calibrate acidity. The liquid was racked twice, crossflow filtered, and bottled with CO2 added for a clean, gentle fizz.

The result clocks in at 4.2% ABV — bone dry, pale ruby-pink, and lightly sparkling. Tart raspberry, watermelon, and a hint of cherry-skin crunch define the palate. It reads somewhere between flavored sparkling water and a very light red, without the weight or alcohol of either.

Young sources fruit from organically farmed sites across the northern Willamette Valley. The Marigny label, which Young launched in 2018 as a subset of St. Reginald Parish, focuses on easy-drinking, low-intervention styles made with native yeasts and minimal additions. The Piquette sits at the most sessionable end of that lineup.

Its low alcohol and bone-dry finish make it a natural at brunch alongside eggs, smoked salmon, or fresh fruit. It works equally well with lighter fare: salads, grilled vegetables, soft cheeses, or fried chicken. Serve well chilled at around 40-45F.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

St. Reginald Parish

Andy Young is a Louisiana native who spent time as a professional drummer in Texas before relocating to Oregon and immersing himself in the Willamette Valley wine scene around 2007. He launched St. Reginald Parish around 2012 to 2015 and introduced The Marigny as a distinct label in 2018, partnering with Adam Shearer and Benji Wagner. The Marigny name references a neighborhood in New Orleans known for live music. The winery is based in McMinnville, Oregon.

Vineyards supplying both labels are organically farmed, with some sites certified and others following organic practices without formal certification. Young and a small crew farm two of the sites in the North Plains area of the Willamette Valley directly. Additional fruit comes from the Chehalem Mountains and McMinnville AVAs. Total production across both labels remains under 1,000 cases.

Young's winemaking centers on native yeast fermentation, carbonic and semi-carbonic maceration, and minimal additions. He typically adds only a small amount of sulfur to some wines, and none to others. The Piquette departs from his standard approach: pressed Pinot Noir pomace is re-fermented with water, blended with a small amount of underripe Pinot Gris juice for acidity, racked twice, crossflow filtered, and bottled with added CO2. No oak is used.

Wine region

Willamette Valley, USA

The Willamette Valley stretches roughly 150 miles from Portland south to Eugene, framed by the Coast Range to the west and the Cascades to the east. The Coast Range blocks Pacific storm systems and creates a moderate rain shadow, producing long, dry growing seasons with warm days and cool evenings. Most rainfall arrives in autumn and winter, well outside the critical ripening window. The valley sits in USDA hardiness zones 8a to 9a, with extreme cold events occurring roughly once every 25 years.

The Willamette Valley AVA contains eleven nested sub-AVAs, including Chehalem Mountains, Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, McMinnville, Ribbon Ridge, Yamhill-Carlton, Van Duzer Corridor, Tualatin Hills, Laurelwood District, Lower Long Tom, and Mount Pisgah. Soils vary considerably across these sub-appellations, encompassing red volcanic Jory, marine sedimentary, loess, and basalt-derived types. Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris are the dominant varieties, though the region also supports Chardonnay, Riesling, and a growing roster of alternative varieties.
