Tasting notes

This is carbonic Pinot Gris taken seriously: 10 months on gross lees in neutral barrel gives it grip and a savory, flinty depth that the standard release skips entirely. Earth, dried herbs, and stone fruit come in layers, with a texture closer to skin-contact wine than conventional white.

  • Style: Dry, medium-bodied white; earthy, flinty, and stone-fruit driven; 10 months on gross lees; Willamette Valley, Oregon
  • Grapes & Terroir: 100% Pinot Gris; 4 sites: North Plains (organic), Chehalem Mountains AVA (organic), McMinnville AVA (Lutte Raisonnée); northern Willamette Valley
  • Winemaking: Indigenous yeast carbonic maceration (2-3 weeks per site); pressed to old neutral barrels; 10 months on gross lees; no fining, no filtration
  • Serving: Serve at 50-55F; no decant needed; can open and drink over 2 days
  • Pairing: Roast pork, mushroom pasta, aged gouda, charcuterie, root vegetable gratin
  • Similar To: For fans of skin-contact whites and textural Friulian Pinot Grigio who want an Oregon natural wine perspective

The 2020 Super Deluxe Pinot Gris is sourced from four vineyard sites across the northern Willamette Valley: two in the North Plains farmed organically by the Marigny team with cover crops including native flowers, edible greens, and root vegetables; one in the Chehalem Mountains AVA farmed organically with the owners; and one in the McMinnville AVA farmed Lutte Raisonnée in 2020. Each site was vinified separately.

Winemaking followed carbonic maceration with indigenous yeast for two to three weeks per tank, after which the wine was pressed directly into old neutral barrels. It rested on gross lees for approximately 10 months without stirring or racking, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Super Deluxe designation indicates longer barrel time compared to the standard Carbonic Pinot Gris release.

The result is a more structured, brooding expression of Pinot Gris than the spring release. Reviewers consistently note earth and herb tones alongside deep stone fruit and a flinty, mineral quality, with present but fine-grained tannins from the extended lees contact. The winemaker cites the wines of Friuli, Hungary, and Georgia as reference points.

100% Pinot Gris. Willamette Valley AVA. Natural wine, no additives.

Works well with dishes that have some weight and savory character: roast pork with herbs, aged gouda, mushroom pasta, or a charcuterie board with cured meats and whole grain mustard. The wine's present tannins and earthy profile also hold up to bitter greens, lentil dishes, and root vegetable gratins.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

St. Reginald Parish

Andrew Reginald Young grew up in Louisiana and worked as a rock drummer before leaving music around 2012 to focus on winemaking in Oregon's Willamette Valley. He launched his first label, St. Reginald Parish, with initial releases around 2015. The name combines his middle name, Reginald, with St. Tammany Parish, his childhood neighborhood in New Orleans. In 2018, Young formed a partnership with Adam Shearer and Benji Wagner and spun off a subset of wines under a second label, The Marigny, named for the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood in New Orleans known for its live music scene. The winery is based in McMinnville, Oregon.

Vineyards are farmed in collaboration with the owners of each site, with the Marigny team managing day-to-day work on the North Plains sites using organic practices, including diverse cover crops. Young sources from cooler, coast-leaning and northern parts of the Willamette Valley. Production remains very small.

Young uses carbonic maceration as his primary winemaking tool across most wines, relying on indigenous yeast fermentation and minimal intervention in the cellar. For the Super Deluxe Pinot Gris, each vineyard was vinified separately through two to three weeks of carbonic fermentation, then pressed directly into old neutral barrels to rest on gross lees for approximately 10 months without stirring, racking, or fining. The wine is bottled unfiltered.

Wine region

Willamette Valley, USA

The Willamette Valley stretches roughly 150 miles north to south between Portland and Eugene, flanked by the Coast Range to the west and the Cascade Mountains to the east. The Coast Range absorbs Pacific moisture and creates a rain shadow effect across much of the valley, resulting in warm, dry summers and concentrated rainfall in winter and spring. Evenings cool quickly throughout the growing season, preserving natural acidity and moderating alcohol levels. The northern section of the valley, where St. Reginald Parish sources its fruit, contains the highest concentration of planted vineyard acreage and the most established sub-AVAs.

Within the broader Willamette Valley AVA, the Chehalem Mountains AVA contains all three of the valley's major soil types: volcanic basalt, marine sedimentary, and loess, sometimes within a single vineyard. The McMinnville AVA sits in the Coast Range foothills at elevations between 200 and 1,000 feet, with shallow uplifted marine sedimentary loams and silts over a basalt base; cooling afternoon winds funnel through the Van Duzer Corridor to the south. Pinot Gris has been grown in the Willamette Valley since the mid-1960s and is one of the region's most established white varieties alongside Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
