Tasting notes

The carbonic co-fermentation of Gewurztraminer and Viognier produces lychee, mango, and orange blossom aromas with a light skin-contact grip and baking spice on the finish. At 12% ABV with zero added sulfur, it drinks fresh and honest without the heaviness that often plagues aromatic orange wines.

Orange Carbo Crush! is a skin-contact wine from Noel Diaz of Purity Wine, made from organically farmed Viognier and Gewurztraminer sourced from Northern California. The 2020 vintage draws fruit from Sonoma County. Each variety undergoes carbonic fermentation separately, then they are co-fermented together before going straight to press. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with no added sulfur.

The blend was conceived as an experiment: Gewurztraminer on its own can tip toward heavy and overripe, so Diaz introduced Viognier for its citrus edge and floral lift to bring balance. The result is aromatic and textured without being weighty, sitting at 12% ABV.

Purity Wine operates out of the Marina Bay District of Richmond, California, where Diaz runs a winemaking cooperative that now includes 18 producers sharing the same space. He sources fruit from across Northern California, from Sierra Foothills vineyards at 2,000 feet elevation down to coastal-influenced Sonoma and Mendocino. Native yeast fermentation and no-sulfur additions are standard across all Purity wines.

Good with soft-ripened cheeses, charcuterie, and dishes with mild spice. The lychee and mango notes pair well with Thai green curry or Vietnamese summer rolls. Also works with white mushroom dishes and anything with a citrus-forward sauce.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Purity Wine

Purity Wine is the project of Noel Diaz, based in the Marina Bay District of Richmond, California. Diaz grew up in Delano in Kern County, the son of migrant farmers, and came to the Bay Area for film school. After nearly two decades working in restaurants across front and back of house, he became a wine buyer, then transitioned into winemaking. He started the Purity label on Treasure Island before relocating to Richmond in 2017, where he established a winemaking cooperative that currently houses 18 producers.

Diaz sources fruit from organic growers across Northern California, from the Sierra Foothills at 2,000 feet to Sonoma, Mendocino, and Contra Costa County. His farming philosophy centers on organics as a baseline, with an additional commitment to regenerative practices including no-till farming to protect soil fungal systems and promote biodiversity. He farms no synthetic chemicals and works only with growers aligned with those principles.

All Purity wines are fermented with native yeasts and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Sulfur additions are minimal to none. Diaz details the production method for each wine on the back label. The Orange Carbo Crush! uses carbonic fermentation for each variety separately before co-fermenting them together, then pressing directly to tank without extended maceration.

Wine region

California, USA

Sonoma County sits along California's North Coast, bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Mayacamas Mountains to the east. The county spans roughly 1,550 square miles and contains 19 distinct AVAs. Coastal fog and afternoon winds from the Pacific pull temperatures down significantly in the western and southern zones, making areas like the Russian River Valley particularly suited to aromatic white varieties. Inland sub-appellations run warmer and drier.

Gewurztraminer has a long-standing presence in the Russian River Valley and along the cooler stretches of the Sonoma Coast, where the maritime influence slows ripening and preserves natural acidity. Viognier is grown across multiple Northern California regions, performing well where warm days are moderated by cool nights. Purity Wine also sources from Nevada County in the Sierra Foothills, where elevations around 2,000 feet add another layer of acidity and alpine freshness to aromatic varieties.
