Tasting notes

Seven grapes, three vintages, one very drinkable bottle — the blend of Mission, Cabernet Pfeffer, and Valdiguié alongside more familiar varieties produces a wine with fresh cherry, pomegranate, and herb notes that you simply will not find anywhere else in California at this price. Light ruby in the glass, barely any tannin, and bright enough acidity to make it genuinely good cold from the fridge.

Got Grapes is Broc Cellars' annual release built around whatever is unexpected and interesting in the cellar. This non-vintage bottling blends barrels from 2018, 2019, and 2020, drawing on Carignan, Mission, Valdiguié, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Pfeffer, and Zinfandel sourced from organically farmed North Coast vineyards. At 12% ABV, it pours a light, transparent ruby and is designed to be served with a slight chill.

All fruit is fermented using only native yeasts and bacteria — no commercial yeast, nutrients, enzymes, or tannins are added at any point. Sulfur is never added during fermentation or aging, and little to no SO2 is added at bottling. The multi-vintage blend is assembled from barrels that stood out individually in the cellar, then bottled as a single California table wine.

On the palate, the wine is light-bodied and juicy, with notes of fresh cherries, crushed raspberry, and pomegranate, plus a whisper of fresh herbs and barely-there tannin. The blend of obscure and heritage California varieties — including Mission, one of the oldest grapes grown in the state, and Cabernet Pfeffer, a rare Californian oddity — gives it a character that no single-varietal wine could replicate.

Got Grapes is a 2,000-case production. Pop it, chill it down to around 55F, and drink it within a year of purchase.

Serve well-chilled alongside grilled chicken thighs, charcuterie boards with cured meats and pickles, or portobello mushroom dishes. The wine's light body and fresh acidity also make it a solid match for tomato-based pasta and pizza, or as a picnic or BBQ red where you want something cold and easy.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Broc Cellars

Broc Cellars was founded by Chris Brockway, who grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, completed his oenology degree at Fresno State, and made his first barrel of wine in 2002. The winery had its first official release in 2006, and by 2008 had moved into a space in Berkeley's Gilman District — an old ink factory that still serves as home base. Brockway's exposure to Terroir, San Francisco's first natural wine bar, shaped his move away from the high-alcohol, heavily extracted California style that dominated the early 2000s.

Broc operates primarily as a négociant, sourcing from organically farmed vineyards across California — from the Central Coast up to Mendocino County. All vineyards in the Broc portfolio are farmed without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or fertilizers. In 2021, Brockway took over farming operations for Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino County, a site he had sourced Italian varieties from for over a decade. Broc Cellars became the official owner in 2023, and Fox Hill received CCOF organic certification in 2024.

Every Broc Cellars wine is made with spontaneous fermentation — only native yeasts and bacteria present on the grapes are used. No nutrients, commercial yeast, enzymes, tannins, or other fermentation additives are introduced. Sulfur is never added during fermentation or aging, and SO2 additions at bottling are minimal or zero depending on the wine. The Got Grapes series began in 2017 from a blend assembled accidentally during a hectic harvest and has continued as an annual release exploring unexpected combinations of varieties and vintages from the cellar.

Wine region

North Coast, USA

The North Coast AVA is a large, federally recognized multi-county appellation covering more than three million acres north of San Francisco. It encompasses Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Marin, and Solano counties, and contains more than 50 sub-appellations within its borders. The overarching North Coast designation typically appears on bottles that blend grapes from multiple counties or AVAs, as is the case with Got Grapes. The unifying climatic thread across the region is Pacific Ocean influence: coastal fog and cool afternoon winds moderate summer temperatures throughout the growing season.

Within the North Coast, Broc Cellars sources from vineyards spread across Mendocino County and the greater Sonoma-Mendocino corridor. Mendocino's inland bench lands, particularly around Ukiah, host old dry-farmed vineyards planted to Carignan, Valdiguié, and other heritage varieties — the backbone of wines like Got Grapes. Sonoma County's warmer inland AVAs, including Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley, contribute Zinfandel and Syrah from benchland and hillside sites. The North Coast label is well suited to Broc's négociant model, which draws on the diversity of the region rather than a single appellation.
