Tasting notes

Bobal at 350 meters in Cuenca gives this pet nat a savory edge you do not expect: tart wild strawberry and raspberry cut through with white pepper and a faint earthy undertone from the bush vines. The 10-plus months on lees add a light creaminess that rounds out the acidity without softening it.

BB Brutal Bestial is a pet nat made from 100% Bobal by Partida Creus. The Bobal vines grow as old bush vines in Narboneta, in the province of Cuenca, approximately 100 kilometers inland from the Penedès at an altitude of around 350 meters — a warmer, drier site than the winery's home base in Bonastre. The grapes are harvested by hand in the cool of the morning, then transported back to Bonastre for vinification.

The wine is made by the ancestral method: native yeast fermentation begins and the wine is bottled before it completes, trapping the CO2 produced during secondary fermentation in bottle. It spends a minimum of 10 months on the lees in bottle before disgorgement. No sulfites are added at any stage. The wine is unfined and unfiltered.

Bobal is Spain's third most planted red grape variety, though it remains little known outside its native regions of Cuenca and Valencia. Partida Creus treats it as a focal point of its work recovering historically significant indigenous Catalan and Spanish varieties. The BB designation refers directly to Bobal.

The result is a dry, lightly sparkling rosé-style pet nat with fine persistent bubbles, vivid acidity, and red fruit character from the thick-skinned Bobal grape. It is classified as Vino de Mesa, as Partida Creus works outside DO regulations to preserve these varieties and methods. 13% ABV.

Serve well chilled with cured meats, anchovies, or pa amb tomàquet. The acidity and light tannin handle oily fish well — grilled sardines or mackerel are natural partners. It also works as an aperitivo alongside olives and aged Manchego.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Partida Creus

Partida Creus was founded around 2000 by Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa, an Italian couple from Piedmont who trained as architects and relocated to Barcelona before settling in Bonastre, in the Massís de Bonastre within Baix Penedès. The name refers to the old Catalan term for crosses used to mark the boundaries between landholdings. When they arrived, the surrounding countryside contained numerous near-abandoned vineyards planted with low-yielding indigenous varieties that neighboring growers considered commercially worthless.

Marchiori and Gerosa began tracking down the owners of these parcels, buying or farming what they could, and working everything organically. Their estate in Bonastre sits at 150 to 200 meters altitude, approximately 5 kilometers from the Mediterranean, with 6 hectares under vine on clay and limestone soils. They are certified organic by the CCPAE (Consell Català de la Producció Agraria Ecologica). The Bobal vines are an exception to their Penedès-based work: these old bush vines grow in Narboneta, province of Cuenca, roughly 100 kilometers inland at 350 meters elevation.

Winemaking at Partida Creus follows a zero-addition approach: native yeast fermentation only, no sulfites added at any stage, no fining, no filtration. The BB Brutal Bestial is made by the ancestral method — fermentation begins in tank and is completed in bottle, with the wine spending a minimum of 10 months on lees before disgorgement. Partida Creus produces over 100,000 bottles per year across their full range, making them one of the larger natural wine producers in the Penedès.

Wine region

Penedès, Spain

Penedès is a DO located in the coastal hills between Barcelona and Tarragona in Catalunya, northeastern Spain. The region divides into three sub-zones by elevation: Baix Penedès, the lowest and warmest, hugs the coast and suits full-bodied reds; Medio Penedès sits at roughly 500 meters and produces the bulk of Cava; and Alt Penedès rises to 800 meters, where cooler temperatures favor fresh white wines. Soils across the region are largely calcareous clay and limestone, with sandy and alluvial deposits in the lower zones.

The Penedès DO was established in 1960 and covers red, white, and rosé still wines. Cava, the region's most famous product, holds its own separate DO centered on Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. As of the 2025 harvest, Penedès made history as the first wine appellation in Spain to achieve 100% certified organic production across all members. Key native white varieties include Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada; reds include Garnacha, Monastrell, Cariñena, and Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo). A younger generation of producers in Baix Penedès — centered on the village of Bonastre — has spent the past two decades rescuing old-vine parcels of forgotten indigenous varieties including Sumoll, Garrut, and Bobal.
