Tasting notes

Bright coral-pink with a lively, fine, persistent bead. The nose is fresh and expressive, with tart red cherry, blood orange, dried rose petal, and a mineral, faintly smoky note from the volcanic terroir. On the palate, the wine is dry, light, and lively, with bright acidity and a clean, refreshing finish.

BodyFruitTanninAcidity
  • Style: Dry, light-bodied naturally sparkling rosé with a gentle, fine mousse; the minimal skin contact keeps the colour bright and the wine fresh rather than structured; at 14% ABV the body is richer than most frizzante styles, with a concentrated fruit profile underlaid by the saline mineral character of the volcanic terroir
  • Grapes & terroir: Aglianico, Primitivo, Piedirosso, and Coda di Volpe; old vines from Montemarano, Irpinia, Campania; volcanic soils at around 500 metres; organically farmed; hand-harvested at low yields; the Montemarano zone is also the source of Cantina Giardino's Le Fole and Drogone Aglianico red wines
  • Winemaking: Brief evening skin contact; direct press; spontaneous fermentation in tank with indigenous yeasts; bottled before fermentation is complete with Coda di Volpe must to trigger secondary fermentation in bottle; ancestral pétillant naturel method; unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfites
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 46–50°F; no decanting; pour gently to manage any sediment; best in a broad, tulip-shaped glass rather than a flute to allow the aromatics to develop
  • Pairing: Cuoppo napoletano (Neapolitan fried seafood cone)

Cantina Giardino Vino Rosato Frizzante NV is a naturally sparkling dry rosé crafted by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola at Cantina Giardino from old-vine Aglianico, Primitivo, Piedirosso, and Coda di Volpe grown at around 500 metres elevation on volcanic soils in Montemarano, Irpinia, Campania. The grapes undergo a very brief evening of skin contact before direct pressing and spontaneous fermentation in tank with indigenous yeasts. The wine is bottled before fermentation is complete, with Coda di Volpe must added to trigger secondary fermentation in the bottle. Cantina Giardino Vino Rosato Frizzante NV is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites. 14% ABV.

Cuoppo napoletano, Spanish jamón ibérico, fried zucchini blossoms, grilled octopus, Vietnamese summer rolls, arancini, fresh mozzarella di bufala.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Cantina Giardino

Cantina Giardino was established in Ariano Irpino by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola, developing from informal winemaking experiments made in the late 1990s at the cellar of a man known locally as Professor Giardino, whose name the winery carries. The commercial project formally launched in 2003 with a founding commitment to rescue the abandoned old-vine parcels of Irpinia that local farmers could no longer sustain, and to prove that these sites, farmed and vinified honestly, could produce wines of real character.

Antonio trained in food technology before specializing in viticulture and oenology in Piedmont. Daniela, trained as an architect, brings a creative and practical dimension to the project that includes crafting terracotta amphorae by hand from soil dug directly from the vineyards. Today Cantina Giardino manages approximately seven hectares spread across sixteen parcels in Avellino province, with varieties including Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, Coda di Volpe, Primitivo, and Piedirosso, some in vines exceeding 100 years old. All farming is organic and all vineyard work is by hand.

In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous and proceed without temperature control, sometimes lasting for months. Vessels include handmade terracotta and sandstone amphorae and casks of local chestnut, acacia, cherry, and mulberry. No fining, no filtration, and typically no added sulfites across the entire range. The winery's Aglianico range alone spans three distinct expressions: Aglianico Re, aged nine months in chestnut; Le Fole, with one month maceration and two years in chestnut; and Drogone, the longest-aged with two months maceration and 30 months in chestnut. The Rosato Frizzante offers a different entry point to the same volcanic terroir in a lighter, accessible frizzante format.

Wine region

Campania, Italy

Irpinia is the mountainous inland territory of Campania within the province of Avellino, sitting well away from the coast at elevations regularly exceeding 400 metres. The landscape is shaped by ancient volcanic activity: basalt, pumice, and mineral-rich ash make up much of the subsoil across the hillside vineyards, giving wines grown here a distinct saline, mineral quality that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. The climate is continental in character, with cold winters, warm summers, and a long, dry autumn that allows late-ripening varieties like Aglianico to reach full maturity while retaining acidity.

Montemarano, from which the grapes for the Cantina Giardino Vino Rosato Frizzante NV are sourced, is one of Irpinia's most respected subzones for Aglianico cultivation. Located in the higher, cooler part of the province, it is directly adjacent to the Taurasi DOCG zone, Italy's most celebrated appellation for Aglianico. The same old-vine parcels in Montemarano that produce the concentrated, structured reds in the Cantina Giardino range also supply the blend for this frizzante, demonstrating how the same terroir can yield very different wines depending on approach and intent.

The province of Avellino holds three important DOCGs: Taurasi for Aglianico reds, Fiano di Avellino for whites made from the Fiano variety, and Greco di Tufo for Greco-based whites. Together these appellations represent the highest formal recognition of Irpinia's indigenous varieties. Beyond the DOCG framework, the broader territory contains dozens of old-vine parcels of Primitivo, Piedirosso, Coda di Volpe, and other local varieties that producers like Cantina Giardino have been working to preserve and vinify with minimal intervention.
