Tasting notes

Very pale blush, almost white, with a luminous clarity in the glass. The nose is aromatic and fresh, with grapefruit zest, rose petals, aniseed, and a hint of lees. On the palate, dry and ample, with vibrant acidity, a gentle saline thread, and a persistent, pleasantly bitter citrus finish.

BodyFruitTanninAcidity
  • Style: Dry, very pale rosé — so light in colour it sits closer to white than to conventional rosé; the slow five-day press, lees contact, and very ripe harvest produce a wine with weight and texture unusual for the colour, marked by bitter citrus notes and saline grip rather than red fruit; unconventional but focused
  • Grapes & terroir: 50% Grenache Noir, 50% Grenache Blanc; estate Valgrand hillside vines, southeast of Valvignères, southern Ardèche; clay-limestone soils; organically farmed; the two varieties co-harvested and co-pressed on the same day
  • Winemaking: Both varieties placed in the vertical wooden press together; slow five-day direct press; no maceration; spontaneous fermentation in fiberglass tanks; aged on lees through winter and spring until bottling in the following year; the extended pressing introduces a faint oxidative complexity; no fining, no filtration, no added sulfites
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 50–54°F; no decanting needed; a chill enhances the wine's citrus and saline character; drink over two to three hours once opened, as it evolves in the glass
  • Pairing: Tapenade and anchovy bruschetta

Anders Frederik Steen Weightless Fingers 2023 is a still rosé produced from a 50/50 co-press of Grenache Noir and Grenache Blanc grown on the Valgrand hillside southeast of Valvignères in the southern Ardèche. The estate vines grow on clay-limestone soils and are farmed organically. Both varieties were harvested together on the same day at a very ripe stage, then pressed slowly over five days in a vertical wooden press. Fermentation took place spontaneously in fiberglass tanks, with the wine resting on lees through winter and spring. Anders Frederik Steen Weightless Fingers 2023 is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites. 15.25% ABV. 750ml. Vin de France.

Tapenade and anchovy bruschetta, Thai green papaya salad, grilled sardines with lemon, vitello tonnato, fresh goat cheese, chilled gazpacho.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Anders Frederik Steen

Anders Frederik Steen is a Danish winemaker working in the southern Ardèche alongside his partner Anne Bruun Blauert. Before making wine, he trained as a chef and then worked as a sommelier at some of Copenhagen's most influential restaurants: first at Noma, then at Relae and Manfreds, where he built one of Scandinavia's first fully natural wine lists. That background shaped a winemaking philosophy grounded in seasonal instinct and hands-on improvisation — much like cooking — rather than fixed formulas or recipes.

He made his first wines in 2013 alongside Jean-Marc Brignot, the peripatetic Jura vigneron, purchasing fruit from growers he trusted and working with minimal intervention from the start. After Brignot left to farm in Japan in 2015, Anders and Anne settled permanently in Valvignères. Today they farm their own vines on the Valgrand hillside southeast of the village, sourcing additional fruit from neighbours Gérald and Jocelyne Oustric at Le Mazel, and from the Bannwarth family in Obermorschwihr, Alsace, where they also maintain a dedicated cellar for the Alsatian wines.

Their approach is built around two principles: "grapes and only grapes," and "nothing added, nothing taken away." No wine is ever made twice. Blends, varieties, formats, and names change every year in response to what the harvest offers. The Weightless Fingers line is made from their own estate Grenache; other wines in the range draw from Ardèche and Alsace sourcing depending on the vintage.

Wine region

Ardèche, France

The Ardèche wine region is located in southern France, covering the Ardèche department and extending into the northern Gard department. It sits on the western banks of the Rhône River, bridging the northern and southern Rhône vineyards. The region is known for its diverse landscapes and climates, making it ideal for vine growing.

Ardèche wines have a long history, with evidence of viticulture dating back to antiquity. The region produces a variety of wines under the IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) Ardèche designation, which was formerly known as Vin de Pays. This classification covers red, white, and rosé wines. Notable grape varieties include Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, the indigenous Chatus for reds, and Chardonnay and Viognier for whites. Other varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Marsanne, and Roussanne are also cultivated.

The Ardèche region is characterized by its varied terroirs, including the mountainous central west, the high plateaux of the Haut-Vivarais and Cévennes, the Bas-Vivarais plains, and the volcanic Coiron plateau. The climate is predominantly Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Mistral wind from the north and sea breezes from the south influence the region's weather, contributing to sudden heavy rainfall in spring and autumn. Soils are typically limestone and sandstone, with pebbly, thin soils in vineyard areas that promote good grape concentration.

The production in Ardèche is dominated by cooperatives, which account for 80-95% of the total output. The Union des Vignerons des Coteaux de l'Ardèche (UVICA) oversees 12 cooperatives, with additional independent cooperatives and private producers contributing to the region's wine diversity. Ardèche wines range from fresh and balanced whites to robust and tannic reds, with Chatus being a standout variety.
