Made from 100% Monastrell grapes grown at 600 meters elevation on limestone soils, Zillamina Red 2024 reflects the fierce Mediterranean character of southeastern Spain. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel with continuous pumpovers over 2–3 weeks. Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Zillamina

La Bodega de Pinoso is a cooperative winery founded in 1932 in the town of Pinoso, approximately 50 kilometers west of Alicante city in southeastern Spain. What began as a collective of local growers has evolved into one of Spain's largest producers of certified organic and vegan wine, with over 600 hectares under organic certification and approximately 150 active member-growers stewarding more than 1,000 hectares of vines.

The cooperative began its transition to organic viticulture in 1997, gradually converting member vineyards and achieving USDA Organic certification alongside approval from the Valencia Organic Agricultural Committee. Since 2010, winemaking has been led by oenologist Ana Amat Sáez, directing the cooperative's commitment to sustainable practices without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Vineyard soils receive only organic manure from local cattle farms, and spontaneous vegetation is encouraged to promote biodiversity.

Zillamina represents a collaboration between La Bodega de Pinoso and Jenny & François Selections, created specifically for the American market. The label design mirrors the Spanish flag colors, while the wine captures the cooperative's emphasis on Monastrell—the traditional grape of Alicante that dominates their plantings.

Production follows modern yet gentle techniques. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with careful pumpovers to extract color and aromatics without harsh tannins. The wines undergo light fining using vegan-certified methods and minimal sulfur additions, preserving fruit purity while ensuring stability.

The cooperative's main grape varieties include Monastrell for reds and rosés, plus Macabeo and Airén for whites. Their portfolio extends beyond Zillamina to include ranges like Vermador, Cristatus, and Pinoso Cepa 50—wines featuring fruit from vines over 45 years old.

Wine region

Catalunya, Spain, Spain

Alicante DO occupies the southeastern corner of Spain's Valencia Community, stretching along the Mediterranean coast and inland to the mountainous Vinalopó valley. The appellation received DO status in 1957 and encompasses two distinct sub-zones: La Marina along the coast, known for Moscatel production, and the larger Vinalopó heartland, where Monastrell dominates red wine production.

The inland Vinalopó zone, where Pinoso is located, features a hot continental climate tempered by Mediterranean influences. Summers regularly exceed 95°F, while annual rainfall barely reaches 12 inches—conditions that challenge vines but concentrate flavors. Vineyards at 600 meters elevation benefit from significant day-night temperature variation, helping preserve acidity despite the intense heat. The region receives 2,500 to 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, comparable to Florida or California.

Soils throughout Vinalopó are predominantly limestone with low organic content, naturally limiting vine vigor and yields. Growers typically train vines low to the ground using bush vine (en vaso) systems, protecting fruit clusters with leaf canopy shade. This traditional approach suits Monastrell, a thick-skinned, late-ripening variety that thrives in hot, dry conditions.

Monastrell—known as Mourvèdre in France—has grown in this region for centuries and remains the dominant variety. The grape produces deeply colored wines with high tannin levels and intense aromatic potential. Modern winemakers have refined techniques to soften Monastrell's naturally robust structure while preserving its characteristic spiced fruit and Mediterranean herbal notes.

Alicante also produces Fondillón, a historic sweet wine from sun-dried Monastrell requiring minimum ten-year solera aging—a regional specialty dating to the 1600s.
