Tasting notes

Bright, translucent ruby with a lively, youthful hue. The nose is fresh and fruit-forward, with wild strawberry, red cherry, blueberry, light floral notes, and a faint herbal edge. On the palate, juicy and medium-bodied with soft tannins, vibrant acidity, a candied red fruit core, and a clean finish.

Wavy Wines co-ferments whole-cluster and destemmed portions of Merlot, Barbera, and Freisa together in open-top stainless steel fermenters with native yeasts, then direct-presses and macerates the remaining varieties to dryness before blending. Wavy Wines Super Californian 2024 is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfites. 13% ABV. California.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Wavy Wines

Wavy Wines is a Los Angeles-based négociant natural wine project founded in 2019 by Jude Zasadzki and Eliot Kessel. The project began casually — a conversation at Eliot's daughter's birthday party over a table of natural wines from around the world, and a shared question about whether they could make something similar from California's organic vineyards. Their starting point was a skin-contact ramato from Pinot Gris sourced from an organic vineyard in Chico, co-fermented with Chardonnay from Scribe Estate Vineyard. That first wine, and the piquette they made from the same pressed skins, established the working principle Wavy has carried through every vintage since: use what the organics growers have, ferment with native yeasts, waste nothing, and bottle without fining, filtration, or added sulfites.

Zasadzki and Kessel do not own or farm any vineyards. They source from organic growers across Northern and Central California, adapting their blends and winemaking approach to whatever each site and vintage provides. The Super Californian is a wine that reflects this philosophy at its most playful — a multi-variety field blend from Siletto Family Vineyards in San Benito County, described by the winemakers themselves as "a fake reverse Super Tuscan." Where a Super Tuscan traditionally plants French and Bordeaux varieties in Tuscany, the Super Californian assembles Italian varieties — Barbera, Freisa, Sagrantino — alongside French and Rhône varieties, all grown in California on organically farmed, old-vine gravelly loam soils. The result changes slightly with each vintage depending on what Siletto has available and how the season develops.

Across the entire Wavy range — from the Sunshine Orange Wine to the NRG pét-nat, the LS Gris, and the Super Californian — the approach is the same: organic fruit, native yeasts, zero-zero, and wines designed to be drunk with ease and pleasure rather than reverence.

Wine region

California, United States

San Benito County sits in the central California Coast Ranges, roughly 30 miles inland from the cold, fog-prone waters of Monterey Bay. The county's wine history is older than most California wine drinkers realize — Théophile Vaché planted vines here in 1849, and by the mid-twentieth century the area was home to over 6,000 acres of vineyards managed by the Almaden winery, one of the country's largest producers at the time. When Almaden was sold in 1986, much of its vineyard infrastructure changed hands or fell fallow, leaving behind a patchwork of old vine plantings and gravelly soils that the next generation of growers and winemakers has been rediscovering since.

The county's dominant geological feature for viticulture is the series of alluvial terraces carved by the San Benito River and its tributary, Tres Pinos Creek. These gravelly loam soils, well-drained and low in fertility, produce fruit of genuine concentration at naturally moderate sugar levels. Elevations across the key vineyards range from roughly 500 to over 1,000 feet above sea level, high enough to generate meaningful day-to-night temperature swings that preserve acidity even as fruit ripens fully under the warm afternoon sun.

The morning fog and cool breezes channeled inland from Monterey Bay — which sits just 30 miles to the west across the mountains — moderate summer temperatures significantly, making San Benito considerably cooler than Fresno or the Central Valley despite being at similar latitudes. This combination of cool mornings, warm afternoons, gravelly soils, and a long dry growing season suits a broad range of varieties. Producers like Siletto Family Vineyards have capitalized on this by planting an unusually diverse portfolio of Italian, French, Spanish, and other varieties that perform well in conditions that reward slow, even ripening. San Benito's wine scene remains small and largely under the radar nationally, which has made it an attractive source for the négoce natural wine producers now doing some of their most interesting work with its organically grown fruit.
