Taste profile
  • Style: Dry, medium-bodied red; fresh, fruit-driven, and approachable; Corvina-dominant with characteristic sour cherry and spice; the stainless steel approach preserves freshness without oak influence; a chillable everyday style designed for food rather than extended cellaring
  • Grapes & terroir: Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella; estate vineyards in Marano di Valpolicella at 250–400 metres on marly-calcareous soils with basaltic and tufaceous layers; south to south-east exposure; certified organic; mixed Guyot and traditional Veronese pergola training systems
  • Winemaking: Hand-harvested last week of September; destemmed and gently crushed; fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature; 10 months in stainless steel on the lees; 2 months in bottle before release; no oak contact
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 57–61°F; no decanting needed; also works well slightly chilled at around 55°F given its fresh structure
  • Pairing: Pasta all'Amatriciana
  • Similar to: Bardolino Classico, Barbera d'Asti, light Chianti from Tuscany

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Novaia

Azienda Agricola Novaia is a family estate in Marano di Valpolicella, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone. The Vaona family has been connected to this site since the early 1700s, farming the surrounding lands and gradually establishing the estate as one of the most prominent agricultural properties in the Marano Valley. The villa that forms the centre of the estate dates to the 15th century and was originally used as a pigeon farm before the Vaona family took occupancy.

Commercial wine production began in earnest under Paolo Vaona in the late nineteenth century. In 1908, Paolo was awarded a Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the Modern Industrial Fair in Verona, one of the first formal recognitions of the estate's quality. The estate was passed down through subsequent generations, with Cesare and Giampaolo Vaona continuing the tradition in more recent decades. In 2005, Cristina and Marcello — the fourth generation — joined the estate, bringing renewed focus on organic farming and regenerative viticulture. Marcello serves as chief winemaker.

The estate covers 10 hectares in total, with 7 hectares under vine and 3 dedicated to olive groves. Organic certification from ICEA has been in place since 2005. Farming practices include green manure with legumes, grasses, and crucifers, and no synthetic chemicals are used in the vineyard or cellar. All wines are vegan-friendly. Annual production is approximately 40,000 bottles, with around 70% exported. The estate is a member of FIVI, the Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti, reflecting its fully integrated approach: the Vaona family oversees the entire production chain from grape to bottle. In addition to the principal varieties, Novaia maintains plots of the rare indigenous varieties Oseleta and Turchetta alongside older Molinara vines, actively preserving Valpolicella's viticultural heritage.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

Valpolicella is a wine zone in the western part of the Veneto, north of Verona, stretching from Lake Garda in the west to the valleys east of the Adige River. The zone is divided into two broad areas: the historic Classico zone, which covers the original five communes of Negrar, Marano, Fumane, Sant'Ambrogio, and San Pietro in Cariano in the western hills closest to Verona; and the extended zone, which was added later and covers lower-lying and flatter terrain.

The Classico zone sits on a series of parallel north-south valleys carved into the foothills of the Lessini Mountains, each with slightly different microclimates and soil compositions. The soils are predominantly marly-calcareous, a legacy of ancient marine sedimentary deposits, but are frequently interspersed with basaltic and tufaceous volcanic material — especially in the higher reaches of the Marano Valley, where Novaia is based. This combination of calcareous structure and volcanic mineral content gives the wines a distinct freshness and aromatic definition.

Valpolicella Classico DOC is the appellation's entry-level red wine designation: a dry, unoaked, fresh red made primarily from Corvina with supporting roles for Corvinone, Rondinella, and historically Molinara. Corvina is the structural backbone, providing cherry fruit, bright acidity, and moderate tannins. Corvinone is permitted to replace up to half of the Corvina component and contributes body and colour. Rondinella adds aromatic freshness.

The same grapes and, crucially, the same vineyards also supply Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto della Valpolicella, and Amarone — three wines of very different weight and character, all built from the same raw material. Amarone, made by drying the grapes for several months before fermentation, is the zone's most celebrated wine globally. The fresh Valpolicella Classico sits at the opposite end of the spectrum and offers the most direct expression of the year's harvest.
