Tasting notes

Bright ruby-violet with a translucent, lively hue. The nose is expressive and floral, with violet, cherry, crushed red berries, and a faint spice note. On the palate, the wine is light, fresh, and dry, with gentle tannins, a soft aromatic sweetness from the Muscat, and a clean finish.

  • Style: Dry, light-to-medium-bodied red; the inclusion of Muscat d'Alexandrie in the blend lightens the wine's body and lifts the floral and aromatic character, giving it a freshness not typical of the southern varieties alone; designed for easy, chilled drinking with enough depth to hold interest
  • Grapes & terroir: Syrah, Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault, Muscat d'Alexandrie, and Gamay; sourced from organically farmed growers primarily in southern France and southern Beaujolais; the 2021 vintage carries a higher proportion of white aromatic varieties compared to earlier releases; Vin de France classification
  • Winemaking: Each variety vinified separately; partial destemming and carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration per variety; spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in fiberglass; blended before aging in fiberglass and steel tanks; no added sulfur; unfined; unfiltered
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 55–59°F; best slightly chilled; no decanting required, though 15 minutes in the glass helps the aromatics open; works well straight from the fridge in summer
  • Pairing: Côte de porc grillée (grilled pork chop)

Domaine La Bohème Môl 2021 is a dry red wine crafted by Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau as part of their négociant range under the Domaine La Bohème label. The blend brings together primarily southern French varieties, Syrah, Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault, and Muscat d'Alexandrie, alongside Gamay sourced from southern Beaujolais growers, all organically farmed. Each variety is vinified separately with spontaneous fermentation and indigenous yeasts, then blended before aging in fiberglass and steel tanks. Domaine La Bohème Môl 2021 is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfur. Vin de France. 12% ABV.

Côte de porc grillée, Vietnamese bánh mì, charcuterie, roast chicken, fresh goat cheese, Korean japchae noodles, grilled aubergine.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine la Bohème

Domaine La Bohème was founded by Patrick Bouju in Auvergne, where he farms around 8 to 9 hectares of his own vines in the Puy-de-Dôme alongside his partner Justine Loiseau. Patrick arrived at winemaking through an unusual route: a chemistry background, followed by military service in Chalon-sur-Saône, where encounters with natural winemakers changed the direction of his life. A personal intolerance to sulfites had already made conventional wine difficult to drink, and the exposure to producers working without additions confirmed what he wanted to do. He studied viticulture in Beaune and returned to the Auvergne to farm, releasing his first commercial vintage in 2002 and committing full time in 2008.

The domaine vines are spread across several communes in the Puy-de-Dôme, mostly on volcanic basalt soils at around 500 metres elevation. Many parcels contain vines over a century old, including pre-phylloxera survivors. Horse-drawn ploughing, organic farming, and biodynamic practices run throughout the estate work. Patrick does most of the vineyard and cellar work himself, from tending vines to bottling and bookkeeping.

In response to difficult harvests and a desire to work with grapes beyond what Auvergne provides, Patrick expanded into a négociant line from 2014 onward. This is where Môl sits, alongside other well-known négociant cuvées in the range. The approach gives Patrick and Justine the freedom to blend varieties and terroirs across France in wines that reflect their philosophy but are not tied to a single appellation.

Wine region

Auvergne, France

Auvergne occupies the volcanic heart of France, in the Massif Central, where the Puy-de-Dôme department concentrates most of the region's vines. The landscape here is shaped by millions of years of volcanic activity: basalt flows, lava rock, pozzolan, and volcanic tuff make up much of the subsoil, giving wines grown here a pronounced mineral and saline character that is unlike anything found in France's more famous wine regions.

The Côtes d'Auvergne AOC, which received official status in 2011, covers five subzones: Madargue, Châteaugay, Chanturgue, Boudes, and Corent. Vineyards sit at elevations between 350 and 600 metres, producing wines with notably high natural acidity and bright fruit, despite the southern exposure and warm summers. Continental winters and significant day-to-night temperature swings throughout the growing season are essential to this freshness.

Môl is a négociant wine rather than a domaine wine, meaning its grapes do not come from Domaine La Bohème's own Auvergne vineyards. Instead, Patrick Bouju sources from trusted organic growers across southern France and southern Beaujolais, working with varieties more commonly associated with the Rhône and Languedoc. The wine is vinified at the Domaine La Bohème cellar in Auvergne, however, which places the winemaking firmly in the region's hands even when the raw material comes from further afield. This approach is a deliberate part of the Domaine La Bohème model, allowing Patrick and Justine to work beyond the constraints of their own harvests and explore varieties that Auvergne's climate does not support.
