Sustainable Handmade Low-sulfites Low-intervention
Description

Kante Ludvik Rosso is a non-vintage red blend produced in the Carso region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. Crafted by Edi Kante, this wine combines 40% Pinot Nero, 30% Terrano, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Merlot, sourced from 20-year-old vines rooted in red clay and limestone soils. Each grape variety is vinified separately in a three-story cellar carved into the limestone bedrock, emphasizing minimal intervention. The wine is aged in a combination of barriques and 25-hectoliter botti, resulting in a fresh, elegant, and fragrant expression that reflects the unique terroir of the Carso plateau.

Tasting notes

Bouquet of succulent dark fruits, floral notes, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with bright acidity, showcasing flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and subtle earthy undertones. The wine's refined tannins and balanced structure lead to a smooth, lingering finish.

Food pairings

Pair Kante Ludvik Rosso with traditional Friulian dishes like jota (sauerkraut and bean soup) or grilled sausages.

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. for heat we offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. again, if we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

Kante

Edi Kante is a pioneering winemaker from the Carso region in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. Situated near Trieste, the Carso plateau is characterized by its rugged limestone terrain and red clay soils, known as "terra rossa." This unique terroir, combined with the area's maritime climate, provides an ideal environment for cultivating distinctive grape varieties. Kante's vineyards benefit from the interplay of Adriatic breezes and alpine air currents, contributing to the freshness and minerality of his wines.

In the 1980s, Kante constructed a remarkable three-level cellar carved directly into the limestone bedrock. Each level maintains a consistent temperature, allowing for precise control during fermentation and aging processes. This innovative approach reflects Kante's commitment to expressing the purest essence of his grapes and terroir. He primarily cultivates indigenous white varieties such as Vitovska and Malvasia Istriana, as well as international grapes like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. His red wine production includes Terrano, Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, often blended to create harmonious cuvées.

Kante's winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the natural characteristics of the grapes to shine. His wines are known for their clarity, elegance, and pronounced minerality, capturing the unique attributes of the Carso region. By combining traditional methods with innovative techniques, Edi Kante has established himself as a leading figure in Italian winemaking, celebrated for his dedication to quality and authenticity.

Wine region

Friuli–Venezia Giulia, Italy

Friuli-Venezia Giulia, situated in Italy's northeastern corner, has a multifaceted historical tapestry influenced by various civilizations. From its inception under the Romans, it underwent successive dominations by the Goths, Lombards, Huns, Venetians, French, Austrians, Yugoslavs, and eventually, the Italians. The region's capital, Trieste, became an official part of Italy only in 1977, underscoring its intricate geopolitical history.

The terroir of Friuli-Venezia Giulia is shaped by its unique geographical juxtaposition between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps. The central Friuli Grave valley, characterized by its stony terrain, facilitates effective grape ripening, lending distinct acidity to wines, notably Pinot Grigio and Prosecco. The northeastern Julian Alps, home to the Colli Orientali del Friuli and Collio regions, provide an elevation essential for grape maturation, influenced by the distinctive Ponca soil—a mix of marl and sandstone. The Carso Peninsula, near the coast, offers a predictable maritime climate, with soils rich in "terra rossa," limestone, and alluvial sands, fostering the growth of organic and natural wines.

White wines from Friuli-Venezia Giulia are diverse and distinctive. Ribolla Gialla, an indigenous grape, is known for its citrusy notes and pronounced acidity. Friulano, grown in Colli Orientali, Grave del Friuli, and Collio, presents a fragrant profile with high acidity. Verduzzo, notable for its tannins, varies from sweet to dry, while Picolit, native to the Rosazzo region, exhibits aromas of stone fruit and honey. Vitovksa, primarily cultivated in Carso, produces citrus-infused mineral wines, while Pinot Grigio from ancient vines stands out for its complexity and creaminess.

The red wines of the region include Schioppettino, reminiscent of Syrah and Cab Franc, showcasing balance and complexity. Refosco, grown in Colli Orientali, is marked by its minerality and strong acidic finish. Pignolo, primarily found in Colli Orientali del Friuli, exudes flavors of plum and blackberry. Tazzelenghe, known for its texture, and Terrano, native to Carso, complete the red wine profile of the region, emphasizing its dedication to both organic and natural wine production.
