Sustainable Handmade Low-sulfites Low-intervention
Description

Cantina Margò AC/DT Orange Sparkling is a vibrant pét-nat hailing from Umbria, Italy. Crafted from 100% Trebbiano grapes sourced from 20- to 45-year-old vines rooted in marl, limestone, and clay soils, this wine embodies the region's rich terroir. The grapes undergo a six-day skin maceration, imparting its distinctive orange hue and complexity. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, followed by bottle re-fermentation to achieve its natural effervescence. Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur addition (20 ppm), AC/DT offers an authentic and lively expression of Trebbiano.

Tasting notes

This sparkling orange wine greets the senses with aromas of quince, orange marmalade, and subtle hints of citrus zest. On the palate, it delivers vibrant acidity, a mineral backbone, and a persistent, dry finish, making it both refreshing and complex.

Food pairings

This wine pairs excellently with crudo di pesce (Italian-style raw fish), seafood antipasti, and linguine alle vongole (linguine with clams).

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. for heat we offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. again, if we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

Cantina Margò

Cantina Margò, nestled in the heart of Umbria, Italy, is the passion project of winemaker Carlo Tabarrini. With a deep-rooted connection to the land and a commitment to natural winemaking practices, Carlo has transformed abandoned vineyards into thriving ecosystems that produce authentic and expressive wines. The estate comprises approximately five hectares of vineyards, complemented by a half-hectare vegetable garden near Lake Trasimeno. The vineyards are divided between two locations: one in the Perugian hills at about 180 meters above sea level and another overlooking Lake Trasimeno at approximately 500 meters elevation. These sites feature soils rich in marl, limestone, and clay, providing an ideal foundation for grape cultivation. The vines, aged between 20 and 45 years, are cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods, reflecting Carlo's dedication to environmental sustainability.

Carlo's approach to winemaking is characterized by minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to fully express their terroir. Harvesting is done manually, and fermentations occur spontaneously without temperature control. The wines are vinified in a combination of stainless steel, fiberglass, and wooden containers, with small amounts of sulfur added only when necessary. This philosophy results in wines that are unfined, unfiltered, and true to their origin.

Wine region

Umbria, Italy

Nestled in the heart of Italy, Umbria is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, Tuscany. Yet, this small, landlocked region has a rich winemaking heritage, producing some of the country's most distinctive and underrated wines. With its rolling hills, diverse terroirs, and a growing natural wine movement, Umbria offers a fascinating mix of tradition and innovation.

Terroir and Climate

Umbria’s landscape is characterized by undulating hills, clay-limestone soils, and a continental climate with Mediterranean influences. The region experiences hot summers and cold winters, with significant diurnal temperature variation, which helps grapes maintain acidity while developing ripe flavors. The Tiber River and Lake Trasimeno also play a role in moderating temperatures, creating ideal conditions for both white and red grape varieties.

Key Grape Varieties

Umbria is best known for its white wines, particularly those made from Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino. Grechetto, the backbone of Orvieto DOC, produces wines with structure and nutty complexity, while Trebbiano Spoletino is gaining attention for its aromatic intensity and suitability for skin-contact wines.

Among red wines, Sagrantino is Umbria’s crown jewel. Native to Montefalco, Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG is known for its deep color, bold tannins, and incredible aging potential. It produces intensely structured wines with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and earthy undertones. More approachable red wines come from Sangiovese, often blended with international varieties like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in Montefalco Rosso DOC.

Notable Wine Appellations

  • Orvieto DOC – Umbria’s most famous white wine appellation, producing both dry and sweet wines from Grechetto and Trebbiano.
  • Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG – The region’s flagship red wine, made from 100% Sagrantino, known for its powerful structure and longevity.
  • Montefalco Rosso DOC – A more approachable red blend featuring Sangiovese with small amounts of Sagrantino and international varieties.
  • Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG – A historic designation for age-worthy Sangiovese-based wines from the town of Torgiano.

A Hub for Natural and Artisanal Winemaking

In recent years, Umbria has become a hotspot for natural and low-intervention winemaking. Producers like Cantina Margò, Paolo Bea, and Raìna are leading the movement, working with organic and biodynamic practices, spontaneous fermentation, and minimal sulfites. Skin-contact whites, unfiltered reds, and pét-nats are gaining popularity, showcasing Umbria’s ability to blend tradition with contemporary trends.

Umbria may not have the fame of Tuscany or Piedmont, but its wines offer incredible depth, character, and value. Whether you’re exploring the boldness of Montefalco Sagrantino, the elegance of Orvieto, or the raw authenticity of its natural wines, Umbria is a must-visit destination for wine lovers seeking something off the beaten path.
