The Wine: California White Wine 2022
Deux Punx California White Wine is made from organically farmed grapes grown in San Benito County, California. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeast, bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulfites.
The Producer: Deux Punx
Deux Punx was founded by Dan Schaaf and Aaron Olson, two wine-addicted, ex-punks, in April of 2008. They utilize the facilities of Punk Dog Wineries, a shared space in the River East Neighborhood in Napa, which lends itself to the minimalist and experimental style of winemaking they capture in their wines.
They love the producers and the grapes that surround them: brambly Pinot Noir off of native root stalk from Elk Prairie Vineyards high above the Eel River in Humboldt County, tart strawberry Grenache Noir and Rose from the Tejada family's beautiful Lake County vineyard, tropical fruit-laden Scribner Bend Viognier from Clarksburg's rich delta soil, lean and mineral Suma Kaw whites from the Sierra Foothills and the white pepper of Albini Carneros Cabernet Franc.
All of their wines are produced in the same manner – native fermentation, minimal so2, neutral oak, and ambient temperatures. Their philosophy is to let the raw materials from the vineyards shine, embracing the differences between sites and vintages. Dan and Aaron enlist artist friends to create their labels, resulting in unique, quirky labels for their quality juice, paired with some musical genius. Deux Punx believes wine is meant to be shared and enjoyed, not cellared and ignored. So go buy a bottle and drink it!
