Tasting notes

Moscato Bianco is almost always made sweet or lightly fizzy; here, a few days on the skins drains the sugar-forward exuberance out of it and leaves something dry, floral, and faintly grippy. The Garganega acts as a structural anchor, adding a saline, fossil-limestone mineral thread that keeps the wine honest.

Mosca Bianca is a skin-contact wine from Siemàn, a small estate run by brothers Marco, Daniele, and Andrea Filippini in Villaga, in the Colli Berici hills south of Vicenza. The blend is predominantly Moscato Bianco, with Garganega filling out the remainder. Moscato Bianco comes from rented vineyards in the Colli Euganei to the east, grown on clay-rich volcanic soils, while the Garganega is farmed on the Berici Hills, where soils are chalky limestone over red clay, rich in marine fossils.

Grapes are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel with several days of skin maceration. The wine then ages in cement vats for several months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Total SO2 across the Siemàn range runs under 15 mg/L. The result is labeled IGT Vino Bianco.

On the nose, Moscato's signature floral aromatics come through alongside citrus peel, aromatic herbs, and a faint earthy, undergrowth character that the skin contact contributes. The palate is dry, medium-bodied, and thirst-quenching, with texture from the maceration tempering what could otherwise be a purely perfumed, simple wine. At 12.5% ABV, it is light on its feet.

Works well as an aperitivo with cured meats, olives, and aged hard cheeses. Try it with pan-roasted fish like branzino or San Pietro (John Dory), where the wine's aromatic lift and dry finish cut through the fat cleanly. Herb-forward dishes, particularly those with fresh thyme or sage, echo the wine's aromatic herb character.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Siemàn

Siemàn takes its name from the Venetian dialect word for 'six hands,' referring to the three Filippini brothers who founded the winery in 2014 in Villaga, in the province of Vicenza. Marco, Daniele, and Andrea came from different professional backgrounds before committing to viticulture. Their father, who previously taught business management at a local university, has since joined them in the vineyards. The first commercial vintage was 2014; an experimental harvest without labels took place in 2013.

The estate covers nine hectares in the Colli Berici hills, of which four are planted to vine. The remaining land is kept wooded and uncultivated to support biodiversity. Soils on the Berici Hills are primarily limestone, calcareous sand, clay, and silt, at approximately 80 meters elevation. The farm has held organic certification since 2017 and is currently certified by ICEA as biodynamic. No synthetic pesticides or herbicides are used; vineyard disease pressure is managed with sulfur against oidium and minimal copper against mildew, kept well below legal thresholds, with beneficial fungi used as a natural treatment. For the Mosca Bianca, Moscato Bianco is also sourced from a rented vineyard in the Colli Euganei, east of the Berici Hills, on clay-rich volcanic soils.

Fermentation across all Siemàn wines is spontaneous, initiated by indigenous yeasts from the grape skins, with no additives, fining agents, or filtration. The Mosca Bianca undergoes skin maceration in stainless steel for several days, then transfers to cement vats for aging over several months. The wine is bottled without treatment. Total SO2 across the range runs under 15 mg/L. The winery also operates a separate craft brewery run by Andrea, where grape-based farmhouse ales and sour ales are produced using some fruit otherwise destined for wine.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

Veneto is northeastern Italy's largest wine-producing region, stretching from Lake Garda in the west to the Adriatic coast in the east. The region encompasses a wide range of climates and soils, from the volcanic basalt of Soave Classico and Gambellara to the limestone-clay hills of the Colli Berici and the morainic ridges of Valpolicella. Key appellations include Soave DOC, Valpolicella DOC, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG, and Colli Berici DOC. The continental climate, moderated in places by the Adriatic and by Garda's thermal mass, allows for a long growing season across the hills.

The Colli Berici DOC covers roughly 165 square kilometers of central Veneto, situated south of Vicenza and midway between Padova and Verona. The hills rise to 300-500 meters above sea level, with south-facing slopes of chalky marly limestone over red clay and pockets of basaltic volcanic rock. The altitude keeps late frosts and fog at bay, and the free-draining soils concentrate flavors. A defining characteristic of Colli Berici wines is a saline, sapid mineral quality attributed to the region's ancient marine-seabed geology. Key native grapes include Tai Rosso, Garganega, and Durella, alongside Incrocio Manzoni. The Colli Euganei, 10 kilometers to the east in the Padua province, sits on volcanic basalt and tuff soils and is a noted growing area for Moscato Giallo and Moscato Bianco.
