Tasting notes

The four-day direct press gives this Grenache Blanc a texture and oxidative depth that most white wines never reach, while the acidity stays bright and the finish turns saline and dry. The magnum format slows the wine's evolution and rewards those patient enough to open it over two nights.

Come Walk With Me and Wonder a Little is 100% Grenache Blanc sourced from a 40-year-old parcel in Valgrand, grown on clay and limestone soils at the Le Mazel farm in Valvignères, Ardèche. The vines are farmed organically and biodynamically by Jocelyne and Gérald Oustric, who have tended this land without synthetic inputs for decades.

Anders Frederik Steen gives the grapes a long, slow direct press over four days using an old wooden press, then transfers the juice to a 4,000-litre foudre where it undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and ages for nine months. Nothing is added or removed: no fining, no filtration, no sulfites at any stage.

The result is a pale, hazy wine with a gently oxidative character, lifted acidity, and a light natural spritz. Expect aromas of white peach, golden apple, quince, and bergamot alongside leesy, textured weight on the palate and a saline finish. Grenache Blanc drops acidity quickly at harvest, so Steen and his partner Anne Bruun Blauert taste the grapes twice daily to hit the precise picking window.

This is a 1.5L magnum format. The wine is sold as non-vintage; winemaking details may vary from year to year as Steen does not repeat the same process twice.

The wine's saline finish and oxidative grip make it a natural match for aged hard cheeses, salt-roasted fish, or dishes with preserved lemon. It holds up well alongside charcuterie and cured meats. The texture also works with roasted root vegetables and dishes finished with olive oil.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Anders Frederik Steen

Anders Frederik Steen is a Danish vigneron based in Valvignères, Ardèche, where he makes wine with his partner Anne Bruun Blauert. Before moving to France, Steen worked as a sommelier at Noma in Copenhagen starting in 2007, then co-founded the restaurants Relae and Manfreds, and ran a natural wine import business supplying the Danish market.

Steen began making wine in 2013 in collaboration with Jura vigneron Jean-Marc Brignot, sourcing fruit from Gérald Oustric at Le Mazel in Valvignères. That collaboration lasted three years. By 2017, Steen and Blauert had settled permanently in Valvignères and began farming their own parcels; today they manage approximately four hectares. They also continue to work with the Oustric family at Le Mazel, where the vineyards have been farmed organically for decades on clay and limestone soils.

Steen's approach changes with every vintage. He tastes grapes during harvest and decides on technique based on what the fruit needs in that moment: sometimes direct press, sometimes short maceration, sometimes blending varieties at the time of crushing so the juices ferment together. All wines are fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, aged in old wood or inert vessels, and bottled without fining, filtration, or any additions, including sulfites.

Wine region

Ardèche, France

Ardèche sits on the western flank of the Rhône Valley in southern France, stretching from the Massif Central highlands down toward the Mediterranean-influenced south. The department spans a range of altitudes, exposures, and soil types, with clay-limestone and marl dominating the southern valleys around Valvignères, while gneiss and granite appear further north in the Cévennes foothills. Valvignères, whose Roman name 'vallis vinaria' means valley of the vine, lies in the heart of southern Ardèche between the Rhône and Alba-la-Romaine.

Most wines from this area are labeled as IGP Ardèche or Vin de France, as many natural producers bypass the appellation system to avoid administrative restrictions and gain freedom in winemaking. The region grows Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, and Cinsault for reds, alongside Grenache Blanc, Viognier, and Chardonnay for whites. The natural wine scene in Valvignères grew significantly around Gérald and Jocelyne Oustric of Le Mazel, who converted their estate to certified organic farming by 2002 and supported numerous young vignerons in establishing their own operations.
