Tasting notes

The three-day skin maceration gives this wine just enough texture to be interesting without tipping into tannic territory, and the combination of Incrocio Manzoni's floral aromatics and Chardonnay's weight lands somewhere between a rich white and a delicate orange. Cold winter stabilization outdoors replaces the need for fining agents, keeping the wine alive and slightly hazy in the glass.

Casa Belfi's Bianco delle Venezie is a skin-contact white from San Polo di Piave in the province of Treviso, Veneto. The blend is Incrocio Manzoni 6.0.13 and Chardonnay, grown on a single one-hectare parcel of pebble-rich, well-draining alluvial soils. Vines are trained Guyot and are approximately 21 years old. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic by both Suolo e Salute and Demeter, and all vineyard work follows the Maria Thun biodynamic calendar.

Grapes are hand-harvested and macerated on the skins for three days. Fermentation is spontaneous using native yeasts, split between stainless steel tanks and terracotta amphora. The wine ages on its lees for roughly six months in those same vessels, then is moved outside over winter to cold-stabilize the tartaric acid naturally. It is bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites. Annual production is around 6,600 bottles.

Incrocio Manzoni 6.0.13 is a cross between Riesling Renano and Pinot Bianco, developed in the 1930s by Professor Luigi Manzoni at the Viticulture and Enology School of Conegliano, just a short distance from Casa Belfi's vineyards. In this wine, it contributes floral lift and aromatic freshness, while Chardonnay adds weight and structure. The short maceration gives the wine a faint amber-gold hue and gentle textural grip without heavy tannin.

The result pours slightly cloudy from being unfiltered, with aromas of Bartlett pear, pressed white flowers, and tangerine zest, followed by a palate that is fresh, saline, and mineral. It shows a touch of ginger and a lively, food-friendly acidity.

Works well with oily fish such as sardines or mackerel, soft cheeses, and egg-based dishes. The saline, mineral finish makes it a natural match for shellfish, particularly clams or oysters. It also holds up to vegetable-forward preparations like zucchini fritti or a leek and goat cheese tart.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

2. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

Producer profile

Casa Belfi

Casa Belfi was founded in 1999 as a collaboration between producer Albino Armani and winemaker Maurizio Donadi, based in San Polo di Piave in the province of Treviso. The project was oriented from the start toward recovering traditional Treviso winemaking methods and working in opposition to the industrial Prosecco model dominant in the region. Today the estate manages over 10 hectares of vineyards across San Polo and Noventa del Piave.

All vineyards at Casa Belfi are certified organic and biodynamic by Suolo e Salute and Demeter. Donadi works strictly according to the Maria Thun biodynamic calendar, using biodynamic preparations to support microbial biodiversity and soil health. No synthetic pesticides or chemical inputs are used. Vine training is Guyot and yields are kept low, with the Bianco vineyard producing approximately 6,600 bottles from one hectare.

In the cellar, Donadi practices minimal intervention. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and takes place in stainless steel tanks and terracotta amphora. Wines are kept on their lees and moved outside during winter for natural cold stabilization, which replaces the use of fining agents. All wines are bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfites.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

Veneto is located in northeastern Italy and is one of the country's highest-volume wine-producing regions. It spans from the Dolomite foothills in the north to the Adriatic coastal plain in the south. The province of Treviso, where Casa Belfi is based, sits in the central-eastern part of the region and is the heart of Prosecco production as well as a source of serious still whites. Soils in the Treviso plain are medium-textured alluvial deposits rich in pebbles, sand, and silt, well-draining and moderately fertile.

The Delle Venezie IGT designation covers the entire Triveneto area, encompassing Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and the autonomous province of Trento. The cool, Alpine-influenced climate maintains high acidity in white grapes, with marked diurnal temperature swings during the ripening period preserving aromatic intensity. The appellation was elevated to DOC status in 2017 specifically for Pinot Grigio, but it continues to be used as an IGT framework for other white varieties including Incrocio Manzoni and Chardonnay. Key appellations in the broader Veneto region include Prosecco DOC, Soave DOC, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, and Valpolicella DOC.
