Tasting notes

Pecorino is one of central Italy's most compelling native whites, and Lammidia's overnight skin contact pulls out a saline, citrus-driven character that most conventional versions never reach. The concrete aging keeps everything sharp and mineral, with just enough texture from the skins to give the wine presence without weight.

  • Similar To: For fans of Gravner or Radikon style orange wines who want something lighter and citrus-driven rather than oxidative

Frekt Bianco is made from 100% Pecorino grown on a half-hectare single vineyard in Villa Celiera, Pescara province, at roughly 700 meters above sea level within the Gran Sasso National Park. The vines average 25 years old and are planted in clay and limestone soils. Grapes are hand-harvested and farmed organically without pesticides, herbicides, or systemic treatments.

In the cellar, Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani keep it simple: an overnight skin maceration, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete, and several months of aging in the same concrete vessels. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined with no added sulfites — pure Pecorino, nothing else.

The result is a light orange wine with a tangerine hue, bright citrus aromatics (lemon, orange blossom, bergamot), summer hay, wildflowers, ginger, and a saline edge. On the palate it is zesty and medium-bodied with lively acidity and light phenolic grip from the short skin contact.

Lammidia releases this wine as Vino Bianco IGT, outside any DOC or DOCG classification — a deliberate choice consistent with their zero-additive, zero-technology approach. The winery motto is "uva e basta": grapes and that is it.

Frekt is well suited to seafood: grilled whole fish, raw oysters, or linguine alle vongole. Its salinity and acidity also work well against aged sheep's milk cheese, which makes a natural regional pairing. Try it with fried artichokes or vegetable-based antipasti.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Lammidia

Lammidia is the project of childhood friends Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani, both from Pescara, Abruzzo. They reconnected after university in Rome and began making wine together in 2010. Their first fermentation stalled completely; according to local legend, a ritual performed by Davide's grandmother Antonia to expel the 'mmidia — the evil eye in Abruzzese dialect — set the ferments moving, and the name Lammidia was born. Their first official commercial release came in 2013.

The cellar is based in Villa Celiera, a small village in the Pescara hills at roughly 700 meters above sea level, within the Gran Sasso National Park. Gentile and Marco work with purchased fruit from just over 5 hectares across several sites, farming organically with many biodynamic practices. They also work grapes from a half-hectare Pecorino parcel on clay and limestone soils with 25-year-old vines, hand-harvested at full maturity. Neither has formal winemaking training; they learned through direct work in vineyards and cellars and through exchanges with other natural winemakers.

Lammidia ferments everything with indigenous yeasts and uses no additives in the vineyard or cellar — no fining, no filtration, no added sulfites. Gentile and Giuliani designed and built their own concrete tanks and amphora-style vessels. For Frekt Bianco, the Pecorino grapes undergo an overnight skin maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation and several months of elevage in concrete before bottling. The wine carries no DOC or DOCG designation, released simply as Vino Bianco. Their motto, stamped on every label alongside a hand print: 'uva e basta' — grapes and that is it.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on Italy's central Adriatic coast, bounded by the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The region covers roughly 34,000 hectares of vineyards and divides into two broad climatic zones: a Mediterranean coastal strip and a more continental mountainous interior that accounts for over 65% of the regional territory. The Gran Sasso massif, which includes Corno Grande at 2,912 meters, generates dramatic diurnal temperature swings that help preserve acidity in grapes grown at elevation. These mountain air currents, combined with Adriatic sea breezes, create conditions well suited to white grape varieties grown on the hillside provinces of Pescara and Teramo.

Abruzzo holds two DOCGs — Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane and Terre Tollesi/Tullum — alongside seven DOC designations, with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo as the dominant appellations. Pecorino is a revived native white variety now cultivated across the provinces of Chieti, Pescara, and Teramo; it thrives in clay and limestone soils on the Apennine foothills, where cool nights preserve aromatic intensity and high natural acidity. Nearly extinct by the mid-20th century, Pecorino was rescued in the early 1980s by Guido Cocci Grifoni in Marche and later championed in Abruzzo by Luigi Cataldi Madonna, who released the first Abruzzo wine labeled 'Pecorino' with the 1996 harvest. Today approximately 1,260 hectares of Pecorino grow in Abruzzo.
