Description

Il Vinco Le Capannacce Rosso is a natural red wine hailing from the Lazio region of Italy, specifically near Lago di Bolsena. Crafted entirely from Grechetto Rosso grapes—a local variant of Sangiovese—this wine offers a unique expression of the area's terroir. The winemaking process involves fermentation and refinement in concrete tanks, allowing the characteristics of the Grechetto Rosso grape to shine without the influence of oak.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby red, reflecting its rich concentration. Aromas of ripe red cherries, wild berries, and subtle floral notes, complemented by hints of earthiness and spice. Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, showcasing flavors of red plum, cherry, and a touch of herbs. The tannins are well-integrated, leading to a balanced and lingering finish.

Food pairings

Roasted meats, pasta with tomato-based sauces, and aged cheeses.

Producer profile

Il Vinco

Il Vinco is a young winery established in 2014 by Daniele Manoni, Marco Fucini, and Nicola Brenciaglia, located between Marta and Montefiascone near Lake Bolsena. The estate spans 3 hectares, characterized by volcanic soils around 400 meters above sea level, and is composed of indigenous grape varieties such as Canaiolo Nero, Grechetto Rosso, Procanico, Rossetto, and Malvasia Bianca. Since 2017, the winery has embraced biodynamic agriculture with minimal intervention, favoring spontaneous fermentation and aging without temperature control in cement vats, without clarification or filtration during bottling.

Wine region

Lazio, Italy

Lazio, also known as Latium, is a central Italian wine region renowned for its ancient winemaking heritage, which dates back to Etruscan times. The area is predominantly recognized for its white wines, especially from grape varieties like Malvasia and Trebbiano, which are used to produce well-known wines such as Frascati and Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone. These wines are typically light, crisp, and meant to be consumed young. The region's geography varies from volcanic hills to fertile plains, providing a diverse terroir that supports viticulture. The volcanic soils, in particular, enrich the wines with a complex mineral profile.

Despite its historical legacy, Lazio's wines have remained relatively obscure on the international market compared to other Italian regions. However, there is a growing interest in the region's red wines, including Cesanese, Sangiovese, and Montepulciano varieties. These reds are known for their depth and ability to age well. Lazio also benefits from a Mediterranean climate influenced by the Tyrrhenian Sea, which moderates temperatures, allowing for a longer growing season.
