Tasting notes

Bright, grenadine-ruby red with good luminosity. The nose is fresh and direct, offering red cherry, strawberry, rose, and a light herbal garrigue note. On the palate, light-bodied and lively with juicy red fruit, soft tannins, bright acidity, and a clean, saline finish with a faint mineral thread.

BodyFruitTanninAcidity
  • Style: Dry, light-to-medium-bodied red; the whole-cluster fermentation with Grenache Noir and Cinsault produces a wine that is fresh, crunchy, and fruit-forward rather than extracted or tannic; vibrant, floral
  • Grapes & terroir: 50% Grenache Noir, 50% Cinsault; hand-harvested from biodynamic vineyards on red Mediterranean limestone and stony soils above the étangs de Bages near Peyriac-de-Mer, coastal Corbières; constant tramontane wind keeps the fruit healthy; low yields, Demeter and Ecocert certified biodynamic
  • Winemaking: Hand-harvested; whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts; vinified and rested in stainless steel; no fining; no filtration; minimal sulfur; the NV designation reflects a deliberate early-release, pleasure-focused approach independent of individual vintages
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 55–58°F or slightly chilled to around 52°F; no decanting required
  • Pairing: Brandade de morue (Languedocian salt-cod gratin)
  • Similar to: Beaujolais-Villages, Marcillac, light Côtes du Rhône rouge

The estate, named after its resident donkeys — one of them called Riquita — is certified biodynamic under Demeter and Ecocert. Produced by Magali and Dominique Terrier of Domaine des 2 Ânes, the grapes are hand-harvested, whole-cluster fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in stainless steel. Les 2 Ânes Riquita NV is bottled without fining or filtration. Corbières AOC.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Returns Policy

Producer profile

Les Chemins de Bassac

Domaine des 2 Ânes is a 20-hectare biodynamic estate in Peyriac-de-Mer, in the coastal Corbières appellation. The estate is run by Magali Terrier and her husband Dominique, who moved there in January 2000 after working in several French wine regions. Magali's background is in Beaujolais and she comes from a wine-growing family — her father is Michel Terrier, an organic pioneer in the Jura. Dominique is also from a winemaking family in the Jura. The couple began converting to organic viticulture in 2002, earned organic certification in 2005, and achieved Demeter biodynamic certification in 2010.

The estate's name comes directly from the donkeys that live among its vines: originally two, now three, including Riquita, Pinocchio, and their mother Lolita. The animals provide genuine vineyard work — nibbling excess shoots and naturally fertilising the soil — and give their names to the estate's wines and label. The Riquita cuvée, named after one of the three donkeys, is the freshest and most immediately approachable wine in the range.

In the vineyard, Dominique manages the vines and applies biodynamic preparations including horn manure 500, horn silica 501, and biodynamic compost made from the estate's own sheep manure. Yields are kept extremely low — sometimes as little as 15 hl/ha — for fruit concentration and vine health. In the cellar, Magali vinifies with indigenous yeasts only and uses no oenological additives beyond minimal sulfur at bottling. Her stated goal is the simplest possible expression: "le respect du raisin, donc peu d'intervention." The estate's wines are exported internationally, and it has been imported to the United States by Jenny & François Selections since 2000, one of the longest-standing partnerships of that importer.

Wine region

Languedoc, France

The Corbières appellation covers a large and geographically diverse zone in the eastern Pyrenean foothills of the Aude department, stretching roughly from Narbonne in the north to the Spanish border in the south. It is one of the largest AOCs in France by surface area, taking in 87 communes and around 13,500 hectares of vineyards across markedly varied landscapes. The Corbières Maritimes, or coastal Corbières, form the southeastern part of the zone, where the appellation meets the Mediterranean shore around a string of shallow salt lakes called étangs — lagoonal bodies of water separated from the sea by narrow sandbars.

Peyriac-de-Mer, where Domaine des 2 Ânes is based, sits directly above these étangs, with views across the water to the Mediterranean beyond. This location brings a specific and beneficial set of conditions: ample sunshine, very low rainfall, and a near-constant supply of the tramontane, a dry north-to-northwest wind that descends from the Massif Central and the Pyrenees. The tramontane dries the vine canopy and grape clusters after any humidity, dramatically reducing disease pressure and making it possible to farm without fungicide sprays. The soils here are red Mediterranean type — a mixture of iron-rich clay, limestone, and scattered stones — deep enough that vines root well and remain resistant to summer drought without irrigation.

The Corbières AOC has a long history of producing structured, southern red wines from Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, and earned AOC status in 1985. The maritime sub-zone, though less celebrated than the inland areas, benefits from fresher conditions and wines with more natural balance between power and acidity than the hotter interior zones. The Corbières Boutenac cru, in the northwestern part of the appellation, received its own AOC in 2005. More broadly, the Languedoc has seen a sustained quality-driven revival since the 1990s, with small independent producers — particularly those working organically and biodynamically — central to this shift.
