Tasting notes

Deep golden-amber with a warm clarity. The nose is floral and aromatic: orange peel, dried flowers, ripe peach, pineapple, and tangerine, grounded by a stony schist minerality. The palate is dry and structured, with zippy acidity, textured skin tannins, and a long mineral finish.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Jean-Yves Péron

Jean-Yves Péron was born and raised in Savoie, studied oenology in Bordeaux in the late 1990s, then spent time working alongside two formative mentors before returning home. The first was Thierry Allemand in Cornas, one of the northern Rhône's most respected natural wine producers, known for making wines of great precision from Syrah without sulfur additions or technical adjustments. The second was Bruno Schueller in Alsace, who encouraged Péron toward experimentation with long skin contact and unconventional aging approaches. Both experiences convinced him that the most interesting wines come from the least intervention, and that Savoie had old vines and ancient terroir capable of producing wines that deserved to be taken as seriously as those from more celebrated French regions.

He established his domaine in 2004, based first in Chevaline and later operating across several sites including Conflans, near Albertville, and Fréterive, in the Isère Valley. The estate covers approximately 3 hectares of micro-parcels on steep, terraced slopes at 1,150 to 1,800 ft elevation, planted with Jacquère, Altesse, Roussanne, Mondeuse, Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, and small quantities of other indigenous varieties. Some of the oldest vines on the estate date to 1893. All farming is organic and biodynamic without formal certification, using horsetail and nettle preparations rather than synthetic treatments.

In the cellar, every wine is made the same way at the philosophical level: indigenous yeasts, no fining, no filtration, and zero or minimal added sulfites across the range. The specific winemaking approach varies by cuvée: reds are typically made with carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration; whites see varying degrees of skin contact; lees aging in neutral barrels or amphorae is standard. Since 2011, Péron has also run a négociant project called I Vicini, sourcing organically farmed fruit from growers in Piedmont and applying his natural winemaking approach to Italian varieties including Barbera, Grignolino, and Moscato, adding a cross-border dimension to a practice that has always been rooted in the mountains of the Franco-Italian borderland.

Wine region

Savoie, France

Bugey is a small wine appellation in the Ain department of eastern France, sitting just west of Savoie and south of Geneva on the western slopes of the Jura and the foothills leading into the French Alps. The appellation was elevated to AOC status in 2009 and covers a scattered collection of vineyard plots across limestone and schist hillsides, divided by rivers and forests, at elevations typically between 820 and 1,640 ft above sea level. The region is geographically between Burgundy to the west and Savoie to the east, and shares characteristics of both: the cool alpine climate of the Alps and the limestone-influenced soils more common in the Jura and Burgundy.

The Jean-Yves Péron Tour Sarazine is labeled as Vin de France rather than AOC Bugey, a common practice for producers who farm outside the strict varietal and geographic rules of a named appellation, or who prefer the flexibility the broader designation allows. The vineyard is co-planted with Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Jacquère, a combination that reflects Péron's interest in working with varieties as they naturally coexist in old, mixed plantings rather than in the modern monoculture model.

Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains is one of the world's most ancient and widely distributed grape varieties, thought to have originated in the ancient Near East and spread across the Mediterranean and into Europe by Phoenician and Greek traders. In Savoie and Bugey, it is a minor variety compared to Jacquère, Mondeuse, and Altesse, but producers like Péron have recognized its potential when grown on schist soils at altitude, where the variety's naturally exuberant aromatics are tempered by mountain acidity and mineral character. The result is a Muscat profile unlike the perfumed, lightly sweet styles associated with Alsace or the south of France: more textured, more restrained, and more driven by the terroir than the grape's innate aromatic character.

Bugey is also known for its sparkling wines, particularly the Cerdon cuvée made from Gamay and Poulsard by the méthode ancestrale, and for still reds and whites from Mondeuse, Pinot Noir, Altesse, and Chardonnay.
