Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine H

Domaine de la Chanteleuserie is a family estate in Benais, in the heart of the Bourgueil appellation, run by Thierry Boucard, the seventh generation of his family to make wine on this land. The Boucard family has been producing wine in Bourgueil since 1822, and the estate's name translates as "place where the larks sing," a reference to the wooded limestone plateau above the village where the property sits. The tasting room is built in Thierry's grandfather's old cellar, and much of the winemaking infrastructure reflects that family continuity: fermentation for all red wines takes place in oak vats that are at least 125 years old, which have absorbed a century of harvests and fermentations.

Kermit Lynch discovered Thierry's father, Moise Boucard, in 1976 and has been the estate's US importer since, a relationship that spans five decades. Moise passed the estate to Thierry, along with, according to Kermit Lynch, a good sense of humor and genuine modesty alongside the winemaking skills. Thierry makes 100% Cabernet Franc across all his cuvées, reflecting a purist approach to Bourgueil's signature variety.

Farming across the estate follows lutte raisonnée practices, meaning chemical inputs are reduced to the minimum necessary and synthetic herbicides are avoided, though the estate is not certified organic. The vineyards are split between sandy valley floor parcels, from which the Cuvée Alouettes is sourced, and south-facing tuffeau plateau sites, which supply the estate's more structured and age-worthy cuvées.

After fermentation in the old oak vats with traditional foot pigeage, wines are aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness, then stored in the estate's underground champignonnières, a network of tuffeau caves originally used by local farmers to grow mushrooms, where the temperature and humidity remain naturally stable year-round. The Cuvée Alouettes is the estate's everyday bottling, built for the table rather than the cellar, and is one of the Loire's most reliable bistro-style reds at its price point.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

Bourgueil is an AOC on the north bank of the Loire River in the Indre-et-Loire department, within the Touraine sub-region of the Loire Valley. It sits roughly 30 miles downriver from Vouvray, across the Loire from Chinon, and produces exclusively red and rosé wines from Cabernet Franc. The appellation covers around 3,500 acres across the communes of Bourgueil, Benais, Restigné, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Ingrandes-de-Touraine, and several others, with Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil holding its own separate AOC.

The appellation's most defining characteristic is the diversity of its soils, which fall into two broadly different types. The valley floor and lower slopes are dominated by sand and gravel, ancient river deposits from the Loire and its tributaries, which produce wines that are softer in tannin, more aromatic, and forward-drinking from a younger age. The plateau and hillside parcels, by contrast, sit on tuffeau, the yellowish limestone unique to the Touraine, which gives wines considerably more structure, mineral character, and the potential to age for many years. Chanteleuserie's Cuvée Alouettes comes from the sandy parcels; the estate's more serious cuvées come from tuffeau.

The climate is temperate and Loire-influenced, with mild winters, warm summers, and maritime air moving inland from the Atlantic. Cabernet Franc ripens reliably here in most vintages and produces wines with more structure and darker fruit character on the north bank than on the cooler Chinon side of the river, while retaining the freshness and pepper note that defines Loire Cab Franc across the region.

Bourgueil has a long history of winemaking dating back to the Benedictine Abbey of Bourgueil, founded in 990 AD, whose monks planted vines across the surrounding hillsides. Today the appellation is home to a mix of family estates and cooperatives, with the finest wines coming from producers who maintain low yields on their tuffeau parcels and vinify with care in traditional cellars carved directly into the limestone.
