Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine Calvez Bobinet

Domaine Calvez Bobinet formed in 2002 when Sébastien Bobinet, a seventh-generation vigneron, inherited 1.8 hectares of vineyard and an ancient limestone cellar from his maternal grandparents. From age seven, Sébastien had helped in the family's vines and later worked in a wine laboratory before briefly leaving the industry for glass-making. In his early thirties, he returned to take over the family estate with clear convictions about organic farming and natural winemaking.

Olivier Cousin, the influential Loire natural wine pioneer, served as an early mentor. In 2007, Sébastien's interest in carbonic maceration led him to Bernard Pontonnier—a former Paris restaurateur who had learned the technique from Jules Chauvet, Marcel Lapierre, and Jean Foillard. Together they created Greta Carbo, a carbonic Cabernet Franc that remains in the portfolio.

Émeline Calvez joined the domaine in 2011, bringing her background as a professional dancer and trained sommelière. Her arrival transformed operations—Émeline now handles winemaking in their impressive tuffeau cave cellar carved into the limestone hillside, while Sébastien manages the vineyards. The estate has expanded to over 6.5 hectares, working with Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, Pineau d'Aunis, Gamay, and Grolleau.

Their wines span accessible, easy-drinking cuvées like Piak! and Le Temps Est Bon to complex, age-worthy bottlings like Les Gruches and Amatéüs Bobi. All wines ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and are bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites—true "zero-zero" wines reflecting the couple's uncompromising natural philosophy.

The Orangette represents their playful side: a gentle skin-contact wine that bridges white and orange wine styles, making macerated Chenin approachable without sacrificing terroir expression.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

Saumur occupies the heart of the Loire Valley in western France, where the Loire River carves through soft limestone cliffs that define the region's character. This tuffeau limestone—a porous, cream-colored stone quarried for centuries to build the area's famous châteaux—now provides ideal conditions for both vine cultivation and underground wine cellars that maintain constant cool temperatures year-round.

The Saumur appellation produces diverse wine styles: still reds from Cabernet Franc, whites from Chenin Blanc, rosés, and traditional-method sparkling wines including Crémant de Loire and Saumur Brut. The sub-appellation Saumur-Champigny has earned particular recognition for elegant, mineral-driven Cabernet Franc reds, while Chenin Blanc produces everything from bone-dry still wines to lusciously sweet expressions.

Tuffeau soils contribute directly to wine character. The porous limestone retains moisture during dry periods while providing excellent drainage, allowing vines to develop deep root systems. The mineral-rich composition translates into distinctive flinty, chalky qualities in finished wines—what tasters often describe as "crunchy" acidity and saline freshness.

The Loire Valley's cool, maritime-influenced climate preserves natural acidity in grapes, making wines from this region food-friendly and age-worthy. Atlantic breezes moderate temperature extremes while occasional continental influences from the east bring warmer harvest conditions in good vintages.

Saumur has become a center for natural winemaking in France. Pioneers like Olivier Cousin, the Foucault brothers of Clos Rougeard, and newer estates like Domaine Bobinet embrace organic and biodynamic farming alongside minimal-intervention cellar practices. Ancient limestone cellars—some dating to medieval times—provide natural temperature control that eliminates the need for refrigeration during fermentation and aging.
