Producer profile

Randi for Vinovore

Randi Winery, located in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, is a family-owned estate that embodies the region's rich winemaking traditions. The Randi family founded the winery deeply rooted in the local culture and landscape, particularly in Bagnacavallo, near Ravenna. The estate has been passed down through generations, with each one contributing to the evolution of the winery's practices and philosophy.

The winery is renowned for its commitment to cultivating indigenous grape varieties, particularly Famoso and Centesimino. These lesser-known varieties are integral to the region's viticultural heritage, and Randi has played a significant role in their revival and promotion. By focusing on these native grapes, the winery aims to produce wines that are high in quality and distinctively expressive of Emilia-Romagna's terroir.

Randi Winery is a pioneer in sustainable viticulture, with an approach that emphasizes respect for the environment and the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem. Their innovative methods, combined with traditional techniques, enhance the quality of their wines. The result is a range of wines that are true to their origins and offer a fresh, contemporary expression of Emilia-Romagna's wine potential.

Wine region

Emilia–Romagna, Italy

The viticultural heritage of Emilia-Romagna stretches back to ancient times, with its roots deeply embedded in the region's rich history. The Etruscans, who were among the first to recognize the potential of the region's fertile soils, initiated the cultivation of vineyards. Their efforts laid the groundwork for what would become a thriving wine culture. The Romans, recognizing the value of the vineyards established by the Etruscans, further expanded viticulture in Emilia-Romagna, making it an integral part of their agricultural practices.
As centuries passed, Emilia-Romagna became a crossroads for traders, settlers, and conquerors, each contributing to the evolution of its wine traditions. The region's strategic location and diverse influences helped shape its unique wine profile, making it one of Italy's most important wine-producing areas.

Emilia-Romagna is geographically diverse, extending from the Po River's fertile plains to the Apennine Mountains' rugged slopes. This varied landscape, coupled with a climate moderated by the Adriatic Sea, creates an ideal environment for viticulture. The region benefits from a balanced climate with warm summers and mild winters, perfect for grape-growing conditions. The soil composition in Emilia-Romagna is a mix of clay, silt, and sand, which varies across different parts of the region. This composite soil structure provides the vines with essential nutrients and good drainage, contributing to developing grapes that are expressive of the region's terroir. The unique interplay of climate, soil, and topography in Emilia-Romagna ensures that its wines are rich, capturing the essence of their place of origin.

Emilia-Romagna is celebrated for its diverse array of wines, with the sparkling Lambrusco being perhaps the most internationally recognized. However, the region's offerings go far beyond this well-known variety. Sangiovese, one of Italy's most iconic grape varieties, thrives in Emilia-Romagna, producing robust and complex red wines that testify to the region's winemaking prowess. On the other hand, Trebbiano, the most widely planted white grape in Italy, produces light, crisp, and elegant wines, offering a refreshing counterbalance to the region's reds. Pignoletto and Albana are some of the most attractive native varietals, vinified still or sparkling.
