Producer profile

Domaine de l'Octavin

Alice Bouvot is the proud owner of L'Octavin, a winery situated in the Jura's Arbois region. Since establishing her domaine in 2005 with an initial 2 hectares, Bouvot has expanded her operations to encompass 5 hectares of vineyards. These vineyards are known for their vibrant, diverse ecosystems, which contribute significantly to the quality of L'Octavin's wines.

L'Octavin prides itself on being Demeter biodynamic certified, underscoring a steadfast commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable viticulture practices. This certification is a hallmark of the winery's dedication to maintaining harmony with nature and ensuring the health of its vineyard ecosystem.

True to the ethos of natural winemaking, all wines produced at L'Octavin are "pur jus." This term indicates that the wines contain no additives. The grapes are meticulously hand-destemmed and undergo fermentation without the use of sulfur dioxide (SO2), cultured yeasts, or any other additives. This process takes place in fiberglass or steel tanks, utilizing the ambient temperature of the cave for fermentation and aging.

L'Octavin is renowned for its focus on single-plot expression wines. A notable example is the Don Giovanni, a cuvée crafted from an old plot of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This wine exemplifies the unique characteristics of these grape varieties, capturing the essence of the terroir in each bottle. Such meticulous attention to detail and adherence to natural winemaking principles makes L'Octavin a standout in the world of natural wines.
