Why we like this wine

This aromatic blend of Xarel·lo, Muscat, and Malvasia undergoes skin contact to build texture while retaining the varieties' perfumed character. Serve at 50-54°F without decanting. Pairs beautifully with esqueixada (Catalan salt cod salad). Similar to aromatic skin-contact whites from coastal Catalonia or lighter Malvasia-based orange wines from Italy.

Product description

Tanca Els Ulls La Festa is a skin-contact blend of Xarel·lo, Muscat, and Malvasia from organically farmed plots near Nulles in Catalonia's Alt Camp region. The vineyards sit on clay-limestone soils close to the Mediterranean, where cooling sea breezes preserve freshness and acidity. Tanca Els Ulls hand-harvests the fruit, then macerates on skins for several days before pressing. Tanca Els Ulls La Festa ages on fine lees in stainless steel, bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfites. Each variety contributes distinct character—structure from Xarel·lo, aromatics from Muscat, body from Malvasia.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Tanca Els Ulls

Tanca Els Ulls is a natural winery located in Nulles, a small village in Catalonia's Alt Camp region, southwest of Barcelona. Established in 2014 by winemaker Francesc "Cesc" Boronat, the winery focuses on reviving old vineyards once tended by his grandfather. The name "Tanca Els Ulls," meaning "close your eyes" in Catalan, reflects the bold leap of faith required to rejuvenate a family-run operation in an area where active wineries had become scarce.

The estate spans vineyards characterized by clay and limestone soils, benefiting from the Mediterranean climate and proximity to the sea, which provides cooling breezes. Boronat cultivates indigenous grape varieties such as Cartoixà (Xarel·lo), Macabeu, and Garnatxa, adhering to organic farming practices that emphasize environmental respect and sustainability.

In the cellar, Boronat employs minimal intervention techniques to authentically express the terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested, undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, and are often macerated on their skins to enhance complexity. Aging takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and amphorae, with wines bottled unfined and unfiltered, and minimal sulfur added only when necessary.

Tanca Els Ulls produces a range of distinctive wines, including the Malvasia, a fresh and saline white; the Cartoixà de Vinyes Velles, an orange wine from 80-year-old vines; and the Garnatxa, a light, semi-carbonic red. Each wine reflects the winery's commitment to showcasing the unique characteristics of the Penedès terroir through natural and sustainable practices.

Wine region

Penedès, Spain

Alt Camp occupies the northeastern corner of Tarragona province in Catalonia, roughly 100 kilometers southwest of Barcelona. The comarca (county) takes its name from the elevated terrain—"alt" meaning high in Catalan—that rises from the coastal plains toward the pre-coastal mountain ranges. Viticulture here dates back centuries, though much of the region's grape production historically fed large cooperative wineries and the nearby Cava industry rather than estate bottlings.

The landscape around Nulles, where Tanca Els Ulls farms, consists of gently rolling hills interspersed with hazelnut, almond, carob, and olive groves alongside small patches of Mediterranean forest. Vineyards sit at elevations between 200 and 400 meters on soils dominated by clay and limestone, often with alluvial deposits and river pebbles near waterways like the Gaià River. The proximity to the Mediterranean Sea—visible from many vineyard sites—moderates temperatures and delivers cooling breezes that help preserve acidity in the grapes despite warm summers.

Indigenous grape varieties define Alt Camp's viticultural identity. White varieties include Xarel·lo (locally called Cartoixà), Macabeu, Parellada, Malvasia, and the rare pink-skinned Cartoixà de Marina (Xarel·lo Vermell). For reds, Garnatxa Negra and Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo) have long histories here. These varieties adapted over generations to the region's particular combination of calcareous soils, Mediterranean climate, and maritime influence, producing wines with notable salinity and freshness.
