Product description

Pèira Levada Dynamite 2022 is a natural red wine from AOP Faugères in the Languedoc, produced by Alexandre Durand. The blend comprises 50% Cinsault, 40% Carignan, and 10% Grenache, grown on marble-rich soils near the commune of Laurens. The cuvée's name honors the old vignerons who used dynamite to clear marble from the land before planting. Pèira Levada Dynamite 2022 undergoes a 10-day whole-cluster maceration with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites—a pure expression of Faugères terroir.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Pèira Levada

Alexandre Durand founded Pèira Levada in 2018, though his journey to Faugères began years earlier. The son of Bergerac winemakers, he relocated to the appellation in 2013 with his partner Sybil Baldassarre, an Italian oenologist who runs her own project, La Grain Sauvage, focusing on white varieties. After working vintages across the Dordogne, Italy, and Burgundy, the couple chose Faugères for its wild beauty and what Alexandre considers among the greatest terroirs in the world.

The domaine name—"Pèira Levada" or "raised stones" in Occitan—references the marble menhirs and rocky outcrops scattered throughout the vineyard parcels. Alexandre works approximately 4.5 hectares divided into twelve small parcels around the communes of Laurens and Cabrerolles. Half sit on the appellation's iconic schist soils; the other half occupy the marble and clay formations that give the estate its distinctive character.

Viticulture follows organic and biodynamic principles, though the estate remains uncertified. Alexandre practices no-till agriculture, allowing wild cover crops to grow spontaneously between rows. This permanent vegetation protects the soil, encourages biodiversity, and promotes microbial life underground. Only mineral and plant-based substances are used for vine protection, supplemented by animal manure for nutrition.

In the cellar, intervention remains minimal. Grapes are hand-harvested in crates, destemmed, and transferred to tank by gravity. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. No oenological inputs are used, and wines are bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites—a practice Alexandre has maintained since 2017. While he remains pragmatic about using small amounts of sulfur if a cuvée needs protection, recent vintages have not required it.

The portfolio includes cuvées like Velvet Underschiste, Lust for Wine, Carignan Radical, and Otium, each reflecting specific parcels and soil types.

Wine region

Faugères, France

Faugères occupies a distinctive position in the northern reaches of the Languedoc, where the Mediterranean plains give way to the foothills of the Cévennes mountains. This compact appellation, granted AOC status in 1982, has built its reputation on a single defining feature: schist. The dark, fractured rock that dominates the landscape gives Faugères wines their characteristic mineral signature and distinguishes them from neighboring appellations.

Yet schist tells only part of the story. Around the commune of Laurens, marble outcrops punctuate the terrain—a geological anomaly that required early vignerons to blast through rock with dynamite before they could plant vines. These marble and clay soils produce wines of a different character: livelier, more angular, with a driving energy distinct from the rounder profiles of schist-grown fruit.

The appellation covers approximately 2,000 hectares across seven communes, though only a fraction is planted to vine. Wild garrigue—the scrubby, aromatic vegetation of thyme, rosemary, and juniper—covers the hillsides, contributing to the herbal complexity found in local wines. Elevation ranges from 200 to 400 meters, providing cooling influences that preserve freshness despite the Mediterranean warmth.

Traditional Languedoc varieties thrive here: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Cinsault for reds; small plantings of white varieties exist but remain rare. The appellation produces exclusively red and rosé wines under the Faugères AOC.

A new generation of natural winemakers has discovered Faugères in recent years, drawn by the wild beauty of the landscape, the quality of old-vine material, and affordable land prices compared to more famous French regions. These producers are crafting distinctive, terroir-driven wines that showcase the appellation's potential.
