Product Description

La Cabotte Côtes du Rhône Blanc Colline 2024 blends Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Viognier, and Roussanne from Domaine la Cabotte's biodynamic vineyards on the Massif d'Uchaux plateau in the Southern Rhône. Marie-Pierre and Éric Plumet farm 30 hectares at 165 meters elevation on chalky limestone and gravelly loam soils—higher than typical for the region, which preserves natural acidity. The estate holds Demeter certification and follows the lunar calendar for all treatments. La Cabotte Colline Blanc 2024 ferments with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and is bottled in spring to capture freshness.

Tasting notes

Pale straw with golden highlights. The nose is elegant and nuanced: pear blossom, white peach, apricot, and a whisper of nutmeg. On the palate, the wine is rich yet lifted, with a creamy texture balanced by mineral tension. Citrus and stone fruit flavors carry through to a long, airy finish.

Food pairings

Bouillabaisse, grilled sea bass, roasted chicken, goat cheese, brandade de morue, vegetable tian, prawn risotto, herb-crusted pork.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to re-route a package after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

La Cabotte

Domaine la Cabotte takes its name from the small stone shelters that vineyard workers once used for tools and shade across the Southern Rhône. Gabriel d'Ardhuy acquired the property in 1980. Today his daughter Marie-Pierre d'Ardhuy-Plumet and her husband Éric Plumet run the estate. Éric began working at the domaine in 1986. The family also has roots in Burgundy—Marie-Pierre's sister Mireille operates Domaine d'Ardhuy in Côte de Nuits.

The estate covers 30 hectares in the commune of Mondragon on the Massif d'Uchaux plateau, between Orange and Bollène. An additional 1.5 hectares lie within Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Vineyards sit at 165 meters elevation on chalky limestone and gravelly loam soils. The altitude and sun exposure create a cooler microclimate than typical for the Southern Rhône. This preserves natural acidity in the grapes.

Domaine la Cabotte holds Demeter certification for biodynamic farming. Marie-Pierre and Éric use the lunar calendar to guide all vineyard treatments. They grow Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Carignan for reds. White varieties include Grenache Blanc, Clairette, and Viognier.

Yields stay low through aggressive winter pruning, spring de-budding, and summer green harvests. Grapes are sorted twice—once in the vineyard, again at the winery. All fruit is destemmed before fermentation. Indigenous yeasts drive fermentation with twice-daily pump-overs. A post-fermentation maceration of six to seven days softens tannins. Wines age in stainless steel tanks and are bottled unfined and unfiltered in spring.

Wine region

Rhône Valley, France

Côtes du Rhône is one of France's largest wine appellations. It stretches along the Rhône River from Vienne in the north to Avignon in the south. The appellation was officially created in 1937. Today it covers approximately 40,000 hectares across six departments: Rhône, Loire, Ardèche, Drôme, Gard, and Vaucluse.

The region divides into two distinct zones. The Northern Rhône runs from Vienne to Valence with steep, terraced vineyards on granite and schist soils. The Southern Rhône spreads across a wider valley from Montélimar to Avignon. Mediterranean climate dominates the south with hot, dry summers and the powerful mistral wind.

Red wines account for roughly 90% of Côtes du Rhône production. Grenache must comprise at least 40% of red blends. Syrah and Mourvèdre typically complete the blend. Other permitted varieties include Cinsault, Carignan, and Counoise. White wines use Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Marsanne, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, and Viognier.

Soils vary considerably across the appellation. The Southern Rhône features clay, limestone, sand, and the famous galets roulés—large rounded stones deposited by the ancient Rhône River. These stones retain heat during the day and release it at night. The Massif d'Uchaux sits northwest of Orange on a plateau of chalky limestone and gravelly loam at higher elevations.

Côtes du Rhône wines offer approachable expressions of Southern Rhône character. Reds typically show ripe red and black fruit, garrigue herbs, and peppery spice. The appellation provides a gateway to understanding the region's terroir without the price of crus like Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Many top producers in named villages also bottle Côtes du Rhône from younger vines or declassified fruit, delivering quality well above the appellation's modest reputation.
