Trebbiano gains unexpected depth through extended skin contact, developing tangerine, stone fruit, and honeyed notes alongside saline minerality. The 45-day maceration builds texture without heaviness. Serve at 54-57°F; brief decanting opens the aromatics. Gramigna alla salsiccia makes a regional match. Similar to a Friulian skin-contact white or Georgian amber wine, but with the brightness particular to Emilia-Romagna's hillside terroir.

Tasting notes

Deep golden-amber with apricot hues. The nose presents tangerine peel, dried apricot, passion fruit, and lychee with subtle honey undertones. On the palate, candied ginger meets stone fruit and saline minerality. Textured mouthfeel from extended maceration leads to a savory, bone-dry, persistent finish.

Food pairings

Gramigna alla salsiccia, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, roasted pork, Thai curry, mushroom risotto, grilled octopus, aged pecorino, chicken tagine.

Product description

Podere Pradarolo Ex Alba Macerato. Trebbiano transformed through 45 days of skin contact—that's the premise behind Podere Pradarolo Ex Alba Macerato 2024. Alberto Carretti and Claudia Iannelli craft this orange wine from organically farmed grapes grown on their estate in Varano de' Melegari, in the Parma hills of Emilia-Romagna. Extended maceration occurs in old oak barriques, with spontaneous fermentation driven entirely by native yeasts. Podere Pradarolo Ex Alba Macerato 2024 is bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites, honoring the estate's commitment to zero-compromise natural winemaking.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Podere Pradarolo

Podere Pradarolo occupies a singular position in the hills surrounding Parma, where Alberto Carretti and Claudia Iannelli have created one of Italy's most distinctive natural wine estates. The farm sits in Varano de' Melegari at elevations between 250 and 500 meters, forming a natural south-facing amphitheater along the left bank of the Ceno River. The Carretti family has worked this land since 1971, though Alberto and Claudia brought a radical new vision when they took over.

Neither came from traditional winemaking backgrounds. Claudia worked internationally in the chemical industry while Alberto was a technician in the meat trade. This outsider perspective freed them to question conventional practices and embrace methods most producers had abandoned. Of the estate's 60 hectares, only five are planted to vines—three hectares established in 1989 and two more in 2005.

The terroir proves ideal for their uncompromising approach. Soils of Cretaceous origin combine clays, sandstones, purplish siltstones, and limestones with 12% active limestone content. A constant marine-originated breeze and dramatic day-night temperature swings create conditions where organic viticulture thrives without chemical intervention. They treat vines only with Bordeaux mixture and maintain natural grass cover between rows.

In the cellar, Podere Pradarolo practices extend maceration far beyond industry norms—60 to 90 days of skin contact for their whites. Fermentation relies exclusively on native yeasts, and wines see no sulfur dioxide, fining, or filtration. This ancient methodology, applied to local varieties like Malvasia di Candia Aromatica and Barbera, produces wines of remarkable depth and aging potential.

The Vej Metodo Classico represents their most ambitious project: applying traditional Champagne methods to amber wine. Discover this and other boundary-pushing bottles among our natural wine best sellers and explore the full Italian natural wine collection.

Wine region

Emilia–Romagna, Italy

Emilia-Romagna stretches across northern Italy from the Po River plains to the Apennine Mountains, producing some of the country's most celebrated foods and increasingly distinctive natural wines. The region encompasses approximately 58,000 hectares under vine, making it one of Italy's most prolific wine-producing areas. Viticulture here dates to Etruscan and Roman times, with traditions shaped by centuries of traders and settlers.

Podere Pradarolo sits in the province of Parma, specifically in Varano de' Melegari along the Ceno River valley. This area occupies the foothills where the Po plain meets the Apennines, creating microclimates distinct from the broader regional character. Elevations range from 250 to 500 meters, with south-facing slopes that capture full sun exposure while benefiting from cool mountain air drainage at night.

The geology proves remarkably complex. Soils of Cretaceous origin combine clays interbedded with sandstones, purplish siltstones, and limestones. This mineral diversity, along with significant active limestone content, contributes structure and longevity to wines grown here. The Adriatic Sea's moderating influence reaches inland, tempering summer heat while constant breezes of marine origin provide natural protection against fungal pressure.

While Lambrusco dominates Emilia-Romagna's production and international reputation, the region cultivates numerous indigenous varieties deserving wider recognition. Malvasia di Candia Aromatica thrives in the Parma hills, producing aromatic whites and amber wines with distinctive floral and stone fruit character. Barbera and local red varieties like Termarina round out plantings at estates focused on terroir expression over commercial appeal.

Natural winemaking has found fertile ground in Emilia-Romagna, where producers embrace extended macerations, wild fermentations, and minimal intervention to honor these traditional varieties.
