Why we like this wine

Pure Falanghina shows the grape's classic profile of white flowers, apple, pear, and citrus. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a clean, dry finish. Refreshing and food-friendly throughout. Serve at 46-50°F. No decanting needed. Pairs naturally with pasta alle vongole. Similar to a fresh Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi or lighter Greco di Tufo with more floral lift.

LIGHT BODYFULL BODY
Tasting notes

Product description

Three generations of winemaking inform Poggio delle Baccanti Campania Falanghina 2024. The La Mura family produces this wine in Sant'Antonio Abate on the Penisola Sorrentina, overlooking Mount Vesuvius near Naples. The estate farms organically on volcanic soils. Falanghina—an ancient variety believed to have Greek origins—comprises 100% of the blend. Grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel. Poggio delle Baccanti Campania Falanghina sees minimal sulfite additions and is bottled to preserve freshness and varietal character.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Poggio delle Baccanti

Poggio delle Baccanti, a family-run winery, is nestled in Moano in the picturesque Penisola Sorrentina near Naples, Italy. This small-scale winery is renowned for producing natural wines with distinct character, crafted from sustainably farmed indigenous grapes. The winery's approach to winemaking is rooted in low intervention, leveraging organic grapes and promoting spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. Poggio delle Baccanti stands out for its commitment to creating quality wines without the addition of sulfites, ensuring a pure and authentic expression of the region's terroir.

The winery specializes in a range of wines that reflect the unique qualities of the Campania region. Their Gragnano Rosso Frizzante, for instance, is a naturally fizzy red wine made from Aglianico and Piedirosso grapes, ideal for pairing with charcuterie, mature cheese, or pizza. The grapes are grown in the fertile volcanic soils near Mount Vesuvius, contributing to the wine's distinctive flavor profile, combining dark purple fruit notes from Aglianico and ripe red fruit with lively acidity from Piedirosso.

Poggio delle Baccanti is also noted for its Lacryma Christi Rosso, a structured rustic red wine made from Piedirosso grapes. This wine is characterized by its dense tannin and dark fruit flavors resulting from organic farming and wild yeast fermentation. The maceration process is carefully managed to ensure a solid tannic structure, and the wine is left unfiltered and unfined, with minimal sulfite additions at bottling.

The winery has a rich family heritage in winemaking. It is run by brothers Raffaele and Paolo La Mura and their cousins Giovanni and Raffaele. They honor the local wine culture and deeply respect the land, adhering to organic farming and low-intervention winemaking practices. The wines from Poggio delle Baccanti encapsulate the essence of the Sorrento Peninsula's volcanic terroir and the rich winemaking traditions of the Campania region.

Wine region

Campania, Italy

Campania occupies southern Italy's western coast along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Naples serves as the regional capital. The region stretches from the Gulf of Gaeta south to the Gulf of Policastro. Mount Vesuvius dominates the landscape near Naples. The Amalfi Coast draws visitors from around the world. Winemaking here dates back to the 13th century BC.

The ancient Greeks introduced viticulture to Campania. Romans later called the region "Campania Felix"—fertile land. Falernian wine from Campania ranked among the most prized wines in the ancient world. Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and buried Pompeii and Herculaneum. The volcanic ash preserved evidence of the region's wine culture. Today volcanic soils remain central to Campania's viticultural identity.

Irpinia lies in Campania's mountainous interior east of Naples. Vineyards here sit at elevations between 400 and 700 meters. The terrain features an intricate network of hills and valleys. Clay, limestone, and volcanic soils dominate. Cool nights at altitude preserve acidity in the grapes. These conditions suit the region's indigenous varieties.

Aglianico stands as Campania's most important red grape. Taurasi DOCG produces the region's most celebrated Aglianico wines. The variety delivers deep color, firm tannins, and aging potential. Fiano and Greco lead white wine production. Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo both hold DOCG status. Falanghina offers aromatic, citrus-driven whites. Coda di Volpe and Piedirosso add diversity to the varietal mix.

Campania has become a center for natural wine production. Producers like Cantina Giardino, I Cacciagalli, and Cantine dell'Angelo work with minimal intervention. They rescue old vineyards and preserve indigenous varieties. Many ferment with native yeasts in amphorae, chestnut barrels, or concrete. The region's ancient winemaking traditions align naturally with contemporary natural wine philosophy.
