All About White Wine | Frequently Asked Questions

We will process and ship your order in 2-3 business days, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking as soon as the Carrier scans the shipping label.

Ground shipping time depends on location, here's a breakdown:

West Coast: 1-2 business days
Midwest: 3-4 business days
East Coast: 5 business days

Process time is not shipping time. Shipping time starts from the days successive to the day of shipping, after the order has been processed.

See here our shipping policy.

Signature on delivery is mandatory for wine deliveries. Please make sure someone is at the shipping address to sign for the package.

If applicable, please consider delivering the package to a business address to ensure someone is available to sign for the package.

We also have the option of delivering the package to a Carrier's store for pickup. Please reach out to us to coordinate.

Carrier will try to delivery a package up to three times before returning the package to us.

See here our shipping policy.

If you miss a delivery and a package gets returned to us we have two options:

1) Reship the package right away: due to the very high cost of shipping and returns, we must charge a re-shipping fee to be determined based on package size and shipping destination.

2) Consolidate the returned package with your next order: this option is free of charge and it's the most popular option.

See here our shipping policy.

White wine is made from white or green-skinned grape varieties, and occasionally from dark-skinned grapes where the juice is separated from the skins immediately after pressing so no color is extracted. The winemaking process begins with harvesting the grapes, followed by pressing to extract the juice, which is then fermented, aged, and bottled. Unlike red wine, which ferments in contact with the skins for days or weeks, conventional white wine ferments with minimal to no skin contact, which keeps the wine pale in color and light in tannins. The result is a wine defined primarily by acidity, fruit character, and aromatic freshness rather than structure and grip. Natural white wine follows the same basic process but with key differences: the grapes are farmed organically or biodynamically, fermentation happens with native yeasts found naturally in the vineyard and cellar, and the winemaker avoids adding commercial yeasts, fining agents, or significant amounts of sulfur dioxide. At Primal Wine, the white wine collection includes over 450 bottles from Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and the United States, all made with organic or biodynamic grapes and minimal intervention.

The most widely recognized white wine grapes in the world are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, and Gewürztraminer. Chardonnay is the most planted white variety globally and is the grape behind white Burgundy, Chablis, and most traditional method sparkling wines. It produces a wide range of styles depending on climate and winemaking, from lean and mineral in cooler regions to rich and textured in warmer ones. Sauvignon Blanc is known for its bright acidity and aromatic intensity, with characteristic notes of citrus, herbs, and sometimes gooseberry. Riesling is one of the most terroir-expressive grapes in the world, capable of producing wines of extraordinary complexity and aging potential, particularly from Germany's Mosel and Pfalz regions and Alsace in France. Pinot Grigio ranges from crisp and neutral in a northern Italian style to deeply colored and textured when made with skin contact. The Primal Wine white wine collection also features less commonly found varieties including Grüner Veltliner from Austria, Chenin Blanc and Savagnin from France, Jacquère from Savoie, Vermentino and Cortese from Italy, and indigenous Georgian varieties like Rkatsiteli and Khikhvi.

The differences begin in the vineyard and carry through to the bottle. Conventional winemaking often relies on lab-grown yeasts, acidity regulators, and fining agents like egg white or gelatin, processes designed to standardize flavor and ensure stability. Natural white wine skips these interventions. The grapes are farmed without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, fermentation is triggered by the native yeasts already present on the grapes and in the cellar, and the wine is typically bottled unfined and unfiltered with little to no added sulfur dioxide. The practical result is a white wine that behaves differently from what most drinkers expect. It may be slightly cloudy rather than brilliantly clear. It may have a more textured, alive quality on the palate. The flavors tend to be less predictable and more site-specific, reflecting the particular vineyard, vintage, and producer rather than a standardized house style. All wines at Primal Wine are dry, meaning all the grape sugar has been fermented into alcohol, and no sugar is added.

The collection spans a wide range of countries and regions. Italy and France make up the largest share, with bottles from French regions including Alsace, the Loire Valley, Burgundy, Jura, Savoie, and the Rhône Valley, and Italian regions including Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Campania, Sicily, Sardinia, Umbria, and Piedmont. Austria contributes wines from Burgenland, primarily Grüner Veltliner. Germany is represented by Riesling and Silvaner from the Pfalz, Mosel, and Franconia. The United States is represented primarily by California and New York's Finger Lakes region. Additional countries include Spain, particularly Catalonia and Penedès, as well as Australia, Switzerland, Portugal, Georgia, South Africa, Slovenia, and New Zealand. The collection also includes a selection of skin-contact orange wines from regions with deep traditions in that style, including Georgia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Alsace.

White wine's natural acidity makes it one of the most food-versatile categories in the glass. Lighter, mineral-driven whites like Chablis, Grüner Veltliner, and Muscadet work beautifully with raw and lightly cooked seafood, oysters, shellfish, and fresh goat cheese. Aromatic whites like Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Blanc pair naturally with spiced dishes, Thai and Vietnamese food, and dishes with a touch of sweetness from caramelized onions or roasted root vegetables. Fuller-bodied whites, including skin-fermented Chardonnays and textured Chenin Blancs, hold up to richer preparations like roasted poultry, creamy pasta, and aged cheeses. Fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, miso, and pickles share a natural kinship with natural wine's own fermented character. Charcuterie and cheese benefit from the acidity that cuts through richness, and Asian cuisines work particularly well because natural white wine handles spice, umami, and layered flavors with ease.

Natural white wine and rosé taste best well-chilled, between 45 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Store natural wine at consistent cool temperatures between 50 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit, away from direct light and vibration. Most natural white wines are best enjoyed within a few years of release, though some age-worthy examples, particularly Chenin Blanc and Riesling, improve over decades. Natural whites often show best at cellar temperature rather than straight from the refrigerator, as over-chilling can mute their aromatics and complexity. Many natural wines also improve with air after opening, as the aromatics develop and any initial funky notes integrate. Primal Wine ships white wines to 45 states across the United States, with orders processed within 2 to 3 business days. The collection includes over 450 bottles across still whites, skin-contact orange wines, and sparkling styles, with prices starting around $22. Orders over $299 ship free. For shoppers who want a curated monthly selection, the Primal Wine white wine club delivers hand-picked bottles each month along with tasting notes and a recipe card.
