Producer profile

Agricola Cirelli

Francesco Cirelli is a renowned winemaker in the Abruzzo region of Italy. He is known for his dedication to organic and biodynamic farming. His vineyards are home to grapes like Montepulciano and Pecorino, flourishing in the area's clay and limestone soils. His winemaking style focuses on minimal intervention. This approach results in wines that truly represent the unique character of the Abruzzo region.

Since 2006, his estate has been certified organic. Cirelli's farm is diverse, including a variety of crops and livestock. He keeps geese for natural weed control in his vineyards and for producing eggs and meats like prosciutto and salami. He also grows garlic and olives.

Cirelli uses amphorae in his winemaking process. This choice reflects his commitment to a unique expression of his wines and the Abruzzo region. His amphorae are specially made by an artisan in Impruneta. They are designed with stainless steel lids to reduce oxidation during fermentation.

His Cerasuolo wine, a traditional Abruzzo wine, has received praise for its simplicity and authenticity. It stands as a symbol of the region's winemaking tradition. Cirelli's wines have gained popularity among those who appreciate the natural and terroir-driven approach to viticulture.

Cirelli's philosophy is to showcase the terroir in his wines. He doesn't categorize his wines strictly as natural or artisan. He focuses on creating wines that highlight the distinct features of their origin
