Producer profile

Domaine Mada

Domaine Mada is a prominent natural wine producer in the Languedoc region of France. Established in 2016, it is the creation of Edouard Adam, a Tunisian-born winemaker. Adam's journey into winemaking began after leaving his commerce studies in Montpelier. He discovered his passion for the craft while helping with the harvest at his girlfriend's parents' bed and breakfast, which included a small vineyard and olive trees in Languedoc.

Adam's approach to winemaking is characterized by a deep respect for the vineyards' ecosystem. He places significant emphasis on allowing the natural flora and fauna to flourish freely among the vines, adopting a holistic and chemical-free approach to gardening. This philosophy extends to his vinification process, where he keeps the stems with the grapes to provide a complete representation of his work.

Adam uses a variety of grape varietals, including Cinsault, Grenache, Clairette Blanche, Carignan, and Syrah. His wines are known for being light and refreshing, yet they possess a distinctive southern heft. Despite his success, Adam remains his harshest critic, often overanalyzing his creations to the point of doubting himself.

"Domaine Mada" is a clever play on Adam's last name, forming a palindrome. Adam aspires to expand his winery by acquiring more land. Meanwhile, he collaborates with local organic grape farmers, though he prefers to destem the purchased fruit.

Some of the notable wines produced by Domaine Mada include 'Rayon Blanc,' made from Terret Gris grapes 'Substance,' a direct press Syrah rosé, 'Culeé de lave,' a blend of Grenache Noir and Clairette Blanche; and 'Furie,' a selection of old vines Carignan and Grenache Noir. These wines reflect Adam's commitment to natural winemaking and his innovative approach in the field.
