Jean Foillard is a renowned natural winemaker based in Morgon, a village in the Beaujolais region of France. He took over his family's estate in 1981 and has since become one of the most respected figures in the natural wine movement. Foillard's vineyards span approximately 11 hectares, including the prestigious Côte du Py, a renowned cru known for its granitic soils.

Jean Foillard's approach to winemaking is heavily influenced by the principles of the legendary Jules Chauvet. He practices organic farming, avoiding herbicides and pesticides, and employs traditional methods in the cellar. This includes using indigenous yeasts for fermentation, whole-cluster maceration, and minimal intervention, with no fining or filtration. His wines are often aged in barrels sourced from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, enhancing their complexity and elegance.

Foillard's wines are celebrated for purity, vibrant fruit flavors, and silky texture. The region's soils are diverse, with granite predominating in the northern areas and sedimentary rock in the south. This geological variance significantly influences the flavor profile and structure of the wines produced here.

The region is famous for Beaujolais Nouveau, a young wine released annually on the third Thursday of November. This tradition celebrates the end of the harvest. It involves the wine made with carbonic maceration, emphasizing fresh, fruity flavors without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.

Apart from Beaujolais Nouveau, the region also produces more structured and complex wines, particularly from the ten Crus of Beaujolais, named areas recognized for higher quality. These crus include Brouilly, Morgon, and Moulin-à-Vent, among others. Wines from these areas are capable of aging and evolving complexity over several years.

Beaujolais wine production is divided into three classifications: Beaujolais AOC, for wines typically light and fruity, suitable for immediate consumption; Beaujolais-Villages AOC, coming from 38 designated municipalities and offering slightly higher complexity; and the aforementioned Cru Beaujolais, from the ten specific areas known for their distinctive and more robust wines.

The Beaujolais region produces approximately 70 million liters annually, accounting for nearly half of all Gamay-based wines globally. Signature on delivery is mandatory for wine deliveries. Please make sure someone is at the shipping address to sign for the package.

If applicable, please consider delivering the package to a business address to ensure someone is available to sign for the package.

We also have the option of delivering the package to a Carrier's store for pickup. Please reach out to us to coordinate.

Carrier will try to delivery a package up to three times before returning the package to us.
